I watched series 1, loved it, can't wait for series 2; Am thinking about reading the books, what I want to know is, can I start book 2 having seen the tv series but not read book 1? ie does it pick up where the tv series ended?
or should I read the end of book 1 before starting book 2?

Many thanks!

Hello,

I would really recommend reading book 1. It is amazing. If you loved the series you will go mad for the book.
The series loosely follows book 1 but it skips over loads of crucial detail. Why dont you read the first twenty pages of book 1 and see if you are able to put it down!

Definitely recommend reading book 1. I saw the series first and loved it but I'm really enjoying the book now.

like many stories, the tv adaptation/film is great but the book is better

you could probably get away with not bothering but you'd be missing out

ok thanks - debating now whether to get the box set on amazon for £24......

BOOKS ARE AMAZING, read book one anyway.... on last book, some inbetween books are slow .....BUT WORTH THE WAIT FOR THE LAST. Apparently he still hasn't finished still more books to write. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely worth reading. I've read books 1 and 2 and have 3 and 4 waiting.

I thought the series was pretty faithful but then I think author had serious input which always helps.

ok thanks, am just wondering if i'll find myself skimming book 1 having seen the series! :)

I have lost my dp to the books, foolishly having bought him the series for Christmas. He never puts them down, the bugger.

MissFoodie, don't worry, you won't want to skim, they are really gripping. I was reading book 1 with the series - started about 3 eps in by the time I'd got the book then made sure, once I'd caught up, I kept pretty much an episode ahead but I certainly didn't want to skip what I already knew. If you are quick with book 1 you can then crack on with book 2 before that hits the screens Grin

I agree you should read from book 1. Loads more politics and detail than the excellent tv series.

I read them on my kindle and it was tricky to keep track of books in order. A number have 2 parts.

I loved them and raced through them all. Easier to wizz through than Lord of the Rings imho.

Got the set for Xmas (haven't seen the series). Have read Book 1, and it's fun. My bro has read all 5 books, he says the author rather 'lost it' on books 4 and 5.

I am going to get onto book 2 quite soon, but like to read other books between books in a series, don't like going straight through.

MadAsASnakeNana · 01/02/2012 00:12

Start with book 1, or you'll miss so much. I read the books some years ago, then watched the TV series - had to go back and read the books again. Quite envy you - all that great reading in front of you.
