Girl with Dragon Tattoo: is the US English translation different to the UK English translation?

How do I find this out? The book I'm reading calls high heels "pumps". That's American, isn't it?

And there've been a couple of other words where I wondered if the translation gave the same sense as what the Swedish might have meant.

Also,
What were the Swedish titles of this trilogy?

a little bit of info.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor, literally Men Who Hate Women) (2005)
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden, literally The Girl Who Played with the Fire) (2006)
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (Luftslottet som sprängdes, literally The Cloud Castle that was Blown Up) (2007)

I think there is only one translation into English for all English-reading people to read - and it was translated into US English because there are more readers there than anywhere else.

It's be a massive duplication of effort for not much extra gain to specifically translate into US English, UK English, Canadian, Australian, etc.

I am not sure you can find out, without asking the publisher...

yes, "pumps" had me back into the school gym with 'plimsolls'....a world away from elegant stilettoes..

OnlyANinja · 12/01/2012 18:32

It seems pretty unlikely that the book would have done as well here if they had literally translated the first title, don't you think?

Panfriedstardust · 12/01/2012 18:34

Indeed...and thanks for the translated titles - am a bit of Salander groupie so it's good to be better informed.
Started a thread in movie reviews re the US film version.

BelfastBloke · 13/01/2012 07:55

Am I remembering right that in the US movie, they're all speaking English, but the newspaper headlines are in Swedish?
