I'm about two-thirds through A Game of Thrones and I'm not really enjoying it

Does it all come together in an exciting ending or should I just throw in the towel? The only characters I'm at all interested in are Dany and Jon Snow and it's not enough to keep me ploughing onwards, especially as it's a series so there probably won't be much of a conclusion in this book.

There is a ton of drama and excitement towards the end, including for Dany. It ends in an exciting way that might just cause you to start the next book. I've read the first three ooks, and I'm not sure now that I'll read four and five. But I don't regret it.

It does hot up towards the end so maybe worth carrying on. I don't like leaving books unfinished unless I really can't manage any more! On the other hand if you've read that much and don't like it then it's possibly just not your sort of book. I am reading the series on the kindle and have to admit it's an advantage being able to quickly swipe through the long boring bits ...

They are rubbish, IMO.

Everyone dies and just when you think things can't get any worse, they do.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2012 17:25

I enjoyed all the books, however I thought the first one was the best so if you're struggling now you might not like the others.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2012 18:04

I read the first one and thought it was pretty rubbish but was told on here that I must read the second one before I made up my mind. I did and thought that was pretty rubbish too.

John Snow was one of the only characters I was interested in and the other was his siter - not the one who's supposed to marry the nasty little bully boy but the one who is a tomboy - have forgotten her name). Book two is even more boring than book one but they are both badly written, clunky and lay ideas on with trowels. I won't bother with any more.

sister not siter

If you don't like it at 2/3 through then it's probably just not to your taste.

I love them, but you clearly don't.

HattiFattner · 05/01/2012 19:05

the series was absolutely spot on with the book. maybe watch the TV show and then decide if you want to carry on reading - i read the book after i watched the show, as I had enjoyed the story so much.

However, have read them all, and I can tell you there is no resolution even now....altho he is keen on killing off key characters!

Xiaoxiong · 07/01/2012 11:13

I've read them all and agree that they are poorly written - there are some very imaginative ideas but the author clearly isn't up to the job of developing them. Also, he seems to delight in building your interest in a character or scenario and then abruptly killing everyone off - incredibly frustrating! Particularly bad with female characters - he creates them and then doesn't seem to know what to do with them so he maims them or kills them off.

However...I was given the DVDs of the Tv adaptation for christmas and it was truly excellent - far better than the books! DH is hooked but I have warned him off the books, I know they will ruin it for him. Better to wait for the next season.
