Hi mamaLou13,

How about The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde? Easier to get into than Dickens...

Have a scout about for Wordsworth Classics, only £1.99 a pop?

:)

Could try Jane Austen - they are quite amusing. I tried reading Pickwick Papers by Dickens over Christmas - I stuck it for 170 pages but got bored and gave up.

I have never managed to get into the classics. I heard on the radio that Evelyn Waugh is quite fun to read - I might try him next.

The Invisible Man is quite chilling and v. interesting...or A Moon and Sixpence, by W. Somerset Maugham. My Uncle Silas, not exactly a classic, but v. funny, and Don Camillo.

How about Cold Comfort Farm? I loved that one - v. funny.

Have you read any Kate Atkinson? Easy to read, clever stories (often) based on crime but more focused on relationships. She's reliably good.

Can't go wrong with Steinbeck. I made myself read Anna Karenina last year (weighty) and although it took a while it was well worth it. Likewise Crime and Punishment. Huckleberry Finn is a lighter weight classic that I also loved.

I'm going to read more Dickens this year. If it kills me....
