Please help me choose a book for my mum for Christmas- perhaps similar to Marian Keyes?

English is not my mum's mother tongue, she can speak it fairly well, but obviously reading high brow literature wouldn't be very enjoyable for her because of that. She wants a book in English for Christmas. She read all Marian Keyes' ones and liked them a lot (the earlier ones best).

I want something light yet not fluffy in a brainless way as that Shopaholic series or whatever it's called. I've no clue what to get her. Any ideas?

TIA Smile

Chicklit froth - either Jane Green Sophie Kinsella or India Knight. The latter has written My Life on a Plate and he xmas-based sequel Comfort annd Joy so maybe these two? Also she wrote How do you want me? I liked them all.

Sophie Kinsella did all the Shopaholic ones - but i preferred The undomestic goddess - and Jane Green's early ones were good Straight Talking Jemima J Bookends.
Irish writer Maeve Binchy circle of friends but that is less frothy or Anne Tyler is good...

Sorry - not reading properly...

you don't want something light and frothy

then Maeve Binchy Circle of friends or AnneTyler theaccidental tourist
then you can get the accompanying DVD adaptations

Still loved India Knight's though

Bridget Jones still a good read

Just finished reading Finding Mr Flood by Ciara Gallagher, also Irish, very funny and touching. Really enjoyed it.

Thanks, will have a look at those.

I think I brought her one or two Jane Green ones, so not sure now which ones she has read.

I do want it light(ish), but not as light as the Shopaholic iyswim. But, yeah, good quality chicklit.

Any other ideas, please?

Cathy Kelly is quite good for nice chicklit. And Maeve Binchy - early ones again are better, Light a Penny Candle is really good.

The Help
Notting Hell/Shire Hell

Was just about to recommend The Help but Bonsoir beat me to it. It is not at all high brow - just a fantastic story with great characters.
