Posted this in Book of the month by mistake earlier today.

With just 35 days left of the year, I've been reflecting over the books I've read in 2011. The discovery of C.J. Sansom and Kate Atkinson made 2011 for me. I'm saving Dark Fire for my flight to the UK next month. I also enjoyed Room, Shanghai Girls, Crimson China and The Long Song.

What was your book of 2011?

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.

I went to see her at Hay-on-Wye; she was such an intelligent and humorous speaker and writes beautifully too. Really recommend her as an author

World War Z - Max Brooks. Can't recommend it highly enough

Jo nesbo - the leopard was epic
Ã…sa larsson- all but especially The Black Path really really good
Lionel shriver- so much for all that- joyous writing on difficult subject
Maggie o'F - read Hand but can't even remember it.
Read all The Camilla Läckbergs
last year but dodgy translations were a let down and ended up feeling erika and Patrik were a bit too smug

Toiling thru Liza Marklund series now Hmm

Also getting into Cara Black Smile

In Search of Adam, by Caroline Smailes.

This book was one of those that really affected me. Absolutely brilliantly written, but a difficult subject matter to read. It really got me thinking, and appreciating my life.

Jonathan Coe - What A Carve Up!
Rupert Thomson - The Five Gates Of Hell
Charles Dickens - Our Mutual Friend (never read any Dickens before, was surprised by how funny, contemporary and moving it was)

BenderBendingRodriguez · 20/01/2012 23:03

Obviously none of those were first published last year, but you know what I mean.
