Anyone reading this? I'm reading the first book, only on about page 250 so far as I just DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME to read. I'm loving it so far but then I'm a huge Murakami fan (been waiting for this all year!). I'm interested to see what others think of it. So far I'm happy.

There were a couple of aspects I didn't like about it but overall it was one of my favourites. A good friend of mine absolutely loved it.

I'm worried about saying too much, sorry for the bland response.

No, that's ok, I'm still not even half way through the first book. I just wish I had a long journey to take without children so I could really get my teeth into it.

Smile I read books 1&2 on holiday, bliss. I do find that it's set up in a way where it's ok not to read all at once, although by the end, I was staying up too late in order to finish it.

I'm in the same situation 200 pages in, really enjoying it so far but no time to get completely lost in it. Love Murakami in general (even what he talks about when he talks about running Grin) and downloaded all 3 on my kindle as soon as they came out. Pre-baby I'd have raced through them, but it is so hard now. I mean, Each Peach Pear Plum is gripping and surreal, but not quite in the same way!

Great to hear good comments as I have this on my Xmas list . Feel a bit conflicted about Murakami - loved Wind up BIrd Chronicle and liked Nowegian Wood but hated Sputnik sweetheart.

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/11/2011 13:19

Oooh I am now on page 540 of the first book (vols 1&2) and I am completely absorbed now. What a stonking great epic! I still think I need a good train journey to get myself chance to read 200 pages or so in one sitting.

Cinderella I have also read that running book and thought it was very inspiring even though I have zero interest in running.

I just love the fact that all his books are quite simple, a little surreal, a little out of this world, yet somehow quite compelling and believable.

I love the fact there is always / are always cat / cats in his books, and spaghetti, jazz, someone with nice ears, a simple salad, whisky, and some reference to parallel universes, other worlds, etc.

Which "running book"? I'd like to hear about it.

mrsravelstein · 29/11/2011 18:05

what i talk about when i talk about running - sort of a memoir, quite brilliant, and made me want to take up running too

CoteDAzur · 29/11/2011 18:41

Thanks. Just downloaded it to my Kindle Smile

Will be reading this thread AFTER Christmas. If you know what I mean!

Murakami's book about the Sarin gas attacks in Tokyo (might be called Underground) is excellent.

Dawndonnathatchristmasiscoming · 02/12/2011 16:05

Shh! Waiting for dh to finish and pass it over. Big Murakami fans!

Took me 9 weeks to read the three volumes, two books, of this. It's not my favourite Murakami (that has to be Wind Up Bird Chronicle) but it was good. I think it could have been a lot shorter though.

I want this book! It's on my wishlist for this year.

MimsHan · 11/01/2012 13:37

Found this thread in the search. Got it for Christmas. Wow, so far it's a great book, but I'm going to be reading it until the summer I think!
