I have just finished reading Snuff and i'm in awe yet again of this man.
I have giggled and laughed but also cried.
The world we live in is reflected back to us in its absurdity, its wonder, its cruelty but also in sheer joy at the diversity of people who contribute to our amazing species.
I am in that post-reading state where I am so glad I have read this book but wish I could back to the non-having-read state in order to do it again. Grin
luckily, these books more than bear repeated readings, it is practically required to get the full experience.

Earthymama · 30/10/2011 08:28

I am so jealous that you will be reading it for the first time!
On my iPhone so can't check your name but are you enjoying it, reader on P292?
In real life I don't know anyone who adores STP as I do.
Off to find forum for like minds.....though I know many on MN love Discworld too Smile

Another TP household here, DD knows where's my cow off by heart! DS about to be introduced to itWink

Agreed. Brilliant. I hate the thought of that unique mind being blighted by Alzheimers and I've just got all the Pratchett books on my Kindle so I can reread them at my pleasure. Can't wait :)

CMOTdibbler · 30/10/2011 09:45

It was fabulous wasn't it ? I love the way he has got into reflecting our world to us.
The grandmother was fab Grin

colditz · 30/10/2011 09:49

It's a truly fantastic book. He is getting better as he gets older, certainly I find his very early discworld books rather banal compared to the more recent ones, even the Tiffany Aching books, which are allegedly for younger readers, make wonderful reading for all ages, and again, have improved over time.

There is a tinge of bitterness seeping in recently, which adds a wonderful depth to the flavour of his prose. Nation was a masterpiece, a quiet and gentle masterpiece.

MrsSnaplegs · 30/10/2011 10:00

Nation is the one book I couldn't settle to, only one I've never finished

VivaLeBeaver · 30/10/2011 10:06

I went off TP after what I considered to be a few duff books. I really liked early ones such as Mort, Reaper Man, Guards Guards. Think I may give Snuff a try though.

huffythethreadslayer · 30/10/2011 10:09

I loved Nation and the Tiffany Aching books. My daughter is 10 and has just started to read them too. I hope she'll read the whole lot when her Kindle comes through after Christmas. The man is so much better at writing than blardy J K Rowling. I'm sorry, but I still don't see what the fuss is about Potter when you compare it to Discworld.

MrsChinandlerBong · 30/10/2011 10:15

I've just finished it too. Pratchett at his best Smile. I love Sam Vimes and the book made me laugh out loud.

piprabbit · 30/10/2011 10:20

MrsSnaplegs - I struggled to get into Nation too, but the ending is fantastic (definitely worth the wait) so it might be worth rereading?

Earthymama · 30/10/2011 22:45

I did write earlier that I am in love with Sam Vimes but was [embarassed]. As you are all so nice I'll admit it now Grin

What about Unseen Academicals? I've just reread it before Snuff and I loved Glenda and of course Mr Nutt.
