I'm hoping to gather some ideas and some real people recommendations rather than the Top 100 Novels to Read Before You Die type lists.

Disclaimer: I know it's hard to pick just one, so you can pick more than one if you really must. [hwink]

I can't believe no-one has mentioned The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruis Zafon. One of the best books I have ever read.

I misread the title of this thread as "Your favourite bonk ever" - and was expecting something vair different! Blush

I'd find it really hard to choose a single favourite book - but I see I am in good company with that problem.

If I had to choose just one, it would be "The Land of Green Ginger", by Noel Langley. It's a children's book, a sequel to the Aladdin story, where Aladdin and his wife have a baby, called Abu Ali. The book is about his adventures when he's sent to pay court to Princess Silver Bud. All sounds fairly trad, but there's a flying garden, a magician who's accidentally turned himself into a button-nosed tortoise, villains called RubDubBenThud and TinTackPingFoo, and a donkey who sits on a pin.
