crikey, and i was upset at the plans to shelve BBC4...

CalatalieSisters · 09/09/2011 12:46

Could be interesting. It is an interesting book.

Here's the petition to save BBC$ from devastating cuts, btw.

AurraSing · 12/09/2011 16:40

It will end up being an x-rated neighbours.

theigloohaslanded · 11/10/2011 22:33

Dear God, the misery will be revisited on us. It's not as if we're working with anything resembling talent to start with. Nominations for characters to play these cardboard, charmless w***s?

TethHearseEnd · 11/10/2011 22:45

The book already stole hours of my life I won't get back.

Now it's going to steal airwaves too.

Although, I'll watch it if Alf from Home and Away is in it. Is he dead? No matter. He will still be able to accurately portray the depth of the characters.

Yes. I'll watch it if a dead Alf from Home and Away plays all the parts.

celticlassie · 15/10/2011 17:45

God, I hated The Slap. Not one character was remotely likeable. I'm not sure why I even finished it. Alf is far too nice to play any of these self indulgent arseholes.

ragged · 15/10/2011 18:10

It's like a tribute to our angst ridden age, in'it?
Can't say that I ever wanted to read it, either.

Technoprisoners · 24/10/2011 20:46

It is a foul work.

I left it on a provincial bench. When I looked back, seconds later, it had gone already ...

toptramp · 31/10/2011 22:55

I quite liked it. I liked Richie , Connie and Aish. The characters are all flawed but that's reality.
It did strike me as being way too try hard on the multicultural Australia side of things though. Ok; we know it is an ethnic melting pot. So is England blah blah blah.

valiumredhead · 07/11/2011 19:08

I HATED the book, I can't imagine the series will be much better tbh.

lambethlil · 08/11/2011 17:36

The TV series is better than the book, IMHO.

I missed the fact that Connie went off Hector having seen the slap, and after that never really understood what anyone was thinking. I think Richie seems very good- looking forward to his story.

Cromwell44 · 08/11/2011 17:43

I haven't read the book After hearing so many negative comments from other readers and all the hype that surrounded it, I decided to give the book a miss.
I'm finding the TV series compulsive viewing and have started to look forward to the next installment. Given the comments above though, I haven't changed my mind about reading the book Grin
I guess this comment should be on telly addicts not the adult fiction topic.

GracieW · 08/11/2011 21:08

I didn't like the book at all but I love the series!

Orphanandie · 08/11/2011 23:12

I must be the only one here who loved the book and now also love the series. I really think they've cast e characters well and have kept the tension going through all episodes.

javo · 17/11/2011 09:59

I too hated the book - but found it strangely compulsive to read. I really like the series though (now I have adjusted to Aish not beinga an indian asian supermodel type)- everyone is a bit more bedraggled and ordinary looking than in the book and it somehow feels more chaotic and "real".

mosschops30 · 17/11/2011 10:02

Hated the book, hate the series just as much if not more

juneybean · 18/11/2011 14:27

I've watched first three episodes, I think I'd have preferred a movie to be honest. It's alright, obviously the book is better.

Acinonyx · 21/11/2011 20:56

Not just you Orphan - I also loved the book and enjoy the series. It does reflect the times and the characters are all very flawed - great stuff!
