The Slap - what did you think?

I have just finished reading 'The Slap' and to be honest I'm not sure whether I enjoyed it or not but I felt compelled to carry on reading for some reason.

Has anyone else read it? Did I miss the point? I think, from the reviews, I was expecting something completely mind-blowing/thought-provoking but it didn't happen...

Absolutely hated it - didn't finish it. The characters were just awful - I didn't like any of them at all, so didn't care what happened to them. So decided there was no point reading it. Have wondered why so many people 'raved' about it? Good publicity?

I'm Australian and thought it was well observed - I recognised all the characters. But I thought the constant sex was putrid...

AWFUL! I'm Australian and didnt recognize the characters, especially the women. One thing that seemed really false to me was that women referred to themselves and their fanjos as cunts. That is just not a word I have ever heard an Australian woman use. The first time I ever heard that word used in a casual way was when I lived in England.

Unless it's a Melbourne thing? Are you from Melbourne, Einsty?
