A Dance of Dragons - who else is reading this atm?

And how bloody long have we waited for it!
I must admit I am relatively new to the series, as a friend bought me A Game of Thrones 2 years ago and then I bought the other books not long after.

I am now wondering how long we will have to wait for the last two!

Arya goes blind??? Knew I shouldn't have clicked on this! Am only halfway through AFFC, having only recently discovered the series. I have bought ADOD and it is waiting for me to finish Book 4. Am currently v confused by both Arya and Sansa's stories - why is Arya wandering about in Braavos not doing anything, and why has Sansa embraced being Littlefinger's daughter to the extent of her chapter starting with her new name (which I have forgotten). I was sitting there going who? until I actually started reading it. Do either of them start to actually get anywhere? And does Arya ever get Nymeria back? They keep mentioning ravening packs of wolves terrorising the riverlands led by a monster she-wolf - I'm assuming this is Nymeria.

My pet theory so far is that Jon is actually the son of Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar (it was Rhaegar who raped her, wasn't it?).

I'm just reading the first one of these, and loved the tv series. I got a bit depressed though when read synopsis of all other books online and realised that EVERYBODY seems to die! Pretty much every Stark and anyone else nice! I'm not sure I can be bothered now. Eddard Stark's just died in mine and I liked him. I like all the other ones too and it seems they'll all go and I'll just be stuck with wet Sansa.

I think Sansa is incredibly wet too. I have to say, Ellie, quite often people you think are dead turn out not to be, so don't worry about it too much. And that's even before you get into the whole powers of the red priests stuff. Don't want to say too much, but don't give up on that account!

Hmm OK TooImmature2BDumbledore I will persevere. I don't want Rob Stark to die though and have a feeling I read he's a goner. If Jon Snow goes mind then that's it, am giving up. Plus as a mother I am feeling very sad for Rickon as he's only little and clearly having all sorts of horrible separation-anxiety and attachment issues because his whole family have deserted him.

well I finished last night. I too am gutted that it didnt come to any conclusion - FFS mr martin, you are getting on a bit and I cannot wait years for a new book! YOU cannot hang about either!

I found some of the characters could have been scrapped - victarion, davos, for example. And the whole Tyrion situation - blimey, drawn out or what?

HattiFatner - totally agree dead is not dead. I think it is obvious that Brienne is alive (perhaps brought back by Thoros the same way he brought back Beric).
Ser Robert Strong is clearly Gregor Clegane (boooo!!) and I don't think Jon is dead, I think the Wildlings and Ghost will save him.
I had a feeling Davos was not dead, I hope he does find Rickon in the next book, poor little boy

Twoimmature - Arya has a list of people to kill so she is training to be an assassin, she thinks all her family bar Jon Snow and Sansa are dead so wants revenge.
Sansa has a price on her head as it is commonly thought she helped Tyrion to kill Joffrey (she didn't, the Queen of Thorns conspired with Littlefinger and I think Varys to kill Joffrey as they felt Tommen would be easier to control - his ordering Ned's execution proved he was a loose cannon as Ned was meant to take the Black). Hence her readiness to disguise herself as Littlefinger's daughter.

I suspect the gravedigger on the Quiet Isle is Sandor Clegane.

It was quite a turn up at the end with Varys killing Ser Kevan, I was wondering what happened to Varys!

I'm about 2/3rd through and enjoying it. I'm supposed to be reviewing it for a Sunday national so I'd better get a wiggle on! Will check here to get a feel for wider reaction.

Cersei may be pregnant? There were a few references in both ADoD and AFfC of her thickening waist...

Mmm, not sure. Think that was just to underline the whole thing about how she's getting a bit old and past it and not that beautiful any more. Could easily be wrong, though!

Was all that stuff about Dany getting her period at the end of Dance of Dragons meant to imply that she had actually had a miscarriage and therefore possibly could get pregnant again, despite Mirri Maz Duur's prophecy?

Also do not believe that dead means dead - except where you actually see burial/total annihilation, such as Tywin Lannister and Quentyn Martell. Jon cannot be dead!

Am not totally convinced by the Prince Aegon thing (as in, I believe that he is Prince Aegon and not an imposter, but I find it a bit unrealistic that yet another claimant of the throne has been hidden away all these years!). Still, I suppose he will ride a dragon and Dany will ride a dragon - so who gets the third?

I have just finished reading the five Ice and Fire books back to back !

I love them but wish I had known about the Ice and Fire Wiki It would of helped me keep characters straight.

And Jon will either survive, or be brought back by Melisandre like Dondarrion.

Did anyone else start to feel sorry for the hound towards the end? I agree that jon is the child of rhaegar and lyana (although I don't believe he raped her, that was roberts version) re-reading GoT and there are loads of little clues (bed of blood, blue flowers etc - plus, I don't believe ned would be unfaithful, too much honour) jaime and brienne will get it on though, and I also think tyrion will ride a dragon (remember the saddle he made bran?)

Good luck to anyone who tries to get a saddle on a dragon.

But maybe if Tyrion has read all the histories (and he does read a lot) he'll know more about dragon training than some people do...
