World Book Night - Which have you read?

Just started All Quiet on the Western Front which my SIL distributed for World Book Night. She's also going to pass on Dissolution which she was given in Game. At first I thought that was an odd place to distribute but I guess whoever did it is trying to convert PC gamers to reading, maybe?

So here's the list of WBN titles, what do we think? Have you received any books yourself?

Case Histories, Kate Atkinson - a favourite of mine, soon to be on TV

The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood - remember enjoying this

A Life Like Other Peoples, Alan Bennett

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, John le Carre

Killing Floor, Lee Child

The World's Wife, Carol Ann Duffy

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, Mark Haddon - brilliant and moving

Selected Poems, Seamus Heaney

Rachel's Holiday, Marian Keyes

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Mohsin Hamid

Agent Zigzag, Ben Macintyre

Love in the time of Cholera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez - a fave of my DH, I found it a complete yawn

Life of Pi, Yann Martel - really enjoyed though not sure I grasped all of its meaning

Stuart: a life backwards, Alexander Masters

A Fine Balance, Rohinton Mistry - not read but often see on lists of favourites

Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell - weird and wonderful, worth sticking with

Beloved, Toni Morrison - read ages ago but recall it was a bit wordy

Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

One Day, David Mitchell - bit like Marmite, I was not impressed

Northern Lights, Philip Pullman

All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque

Dissolution, C.J. Sansom

Toast, Nigel Slater - wonderfully poignant as well as comical

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Muriel Spark

Fingersmith, Sarah Waters - great twist (as per another thread on MN)

Case Histories, Kate Atkinson - yes: have given up on her as she annoys me so much with her clunky coincidences

The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood - I like Atwood but have now given up on this one three times

The World's Wife, Carol Ann Duffy - yes: LOVE Anne Hathaway especially

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, Mark Haddon - liked this

Selected Poems, Seamus Heaney - have read a lot of his but not this book in its entirety

Rachel's Holiday, Marian Keyes - good god no

Love in the time of Cholera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I liked this

Life of Pi, Yann Martel - hated it

Beloved, Toni Morrison - yes: wasn't blown away

Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - liked this

Northern Lights, Philip Pullman - fab

All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque - MUST read this

Dissolution, C.J. Sansom - brilliant

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Muriel Spark - liked this: good fun

Fingersmith, Sarah Waters - HATED this

Case Histories, Kate Atkinson - Jackson Brodie on TV? sounds interesting but I'm nervous - I like this series

The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood - I liked this, should reread, read most Margaret Atwood

A Life Like Other Peoples, Alan Bennett - no but could be tempted

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, John le Carre - I own it, haven't read

Killing Floor, Lee Child - I own it but haven't read - I was one of a large group of people he kindly bought dinner at a crime fiction event and bought his first Reacher book on the way home. I've read a later book in the series and it was ok, but I have too many books to read

The World's Wife, Carol Ann Duffy - own, not yet read

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, Mark Haddon - liked this

Selected Poems, Seamus Heaney - Not this book but I have some of his poetry

Rachel's Holiday, Marian Keyes - enjoyed this one

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Mohsin Hamid - read recently, I enjoyed it

Agent Zigzag, Ben Macintyre - never heard of it

Love in the time of Cholera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez - liked it, need to reread

Life of Pi, Yann Martel - was given as a present but might never get round to it

Stuart: a life backwards, Alexander Masters - maybe I should look for this

A Fine Balance, Rohinton Mistry - not read

Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell - own, not read yet

Beloved, Toni Morrison - own, should reread

Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - liked this

One Day, David Nicholls - ok but very overrated - amazing the respect given to a chicklit novel because it has a male author

Northern Lights, Philip Pullman - loved this

All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque - a favourite

Dissolution, C.J. Sansom - liked this

Toast, Nigel Slater - not read

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Muriel Spark - favourite

Fingersmith, Sarah Waters - I love Sarah Waters

Life of Pi, Yann Martel - read but don't think i really 'got' it

Stuart: a life backwards, Alexander Masters - not read

Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell - loved this book, one of my favourites ever!

Beloved, Toni Morrison - not read

Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - read and thought was a good book, felt educated about a situation I knew nothing about

All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque - not read

Dissolution, C.J. Sansom - not read

Toast, Nigel Slater - very funny, liked a lot

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Muriel Spark - read with book group, was ok and we had a good discussion but not a big fan of her style
