Just started All Quiet on the Western Front which my SIL distributed for World Book Night. She's also going to pass on Dissolution which she was given in Game. At first I thought that was an odd place to distribute but I guess whoever did it is trying to convert PC gamers to reading, maybe?
So here's the list of WBN titles, what do we think? Have you received any books yourself?
Case Histories, Kate Atkinson - a favourite of mine, soon to be on TV
The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood - remember enjoying this
A Life Like Other Peoples, Alan Bennett
The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, John le Carre
Killing Floor, Lee Child
The World's Wife, Carol Ann Duffy
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, Mark Haddon - brilliant and moving
Selected Poems, Seamus Heaney
Rachel's Holiday, Marian Keyes
The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Mohsin Hamid
Agent Zigzag, Ben Macintyre
Love in the time of Cholera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez - a fave of my DH, I found it a complete yawn
Life of Pi, Yann Martel - really enjoyed though not sure I grasped all of its meaning
Stuart: a life backwards, Alexander Masters
A Fine Balance, Rohinton Mistry - not read but often see on lists of favourites
Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell - weird and wonderful, worth sticking with
Beloved, Toni Morrison - read ages ago but recall it was a bit wordy
Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
One Day, David Mitchell - bit like Marmite, I was not impressed
Northern Lights, Philip Pullman
All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque
Dissolution, C.J. Sansom
Toast, Nigel Slater - wonderfully poignant as well as comical
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Muriel Spark
Fingersmith, Sarah Waters - great twist (as per another thread on MN)
