Has anyone read "Full Dark, No Stars" by Stephen King?

Nearly bought it as an eBook yesterday but then hesitated and read a few reviews first.

Have gone off SK somewhat after having DS... and anyway, after his accident IMO his books really went over the top. "From A Buick 8" was the last one I read that I actually liked, I started "Duma Key" but couldn't finish it, which has happened to me only about 3 or 4 times, normally even if a book is horrible I feel compelled to finish it - see my thread about Patricia Cornwell :o

So, anyone? How creepy is it? Worth buying?

I thought he got a lot better after he was run over (sounds harsh when you put it like that!) "Insomnia" was a real low point I thought & there were loads of rumours that he wasn't even writing his books himself any more. I really liked "Duma Key" & really liked "Full Dark, No stars". The first story is brilliant, really dark & chilling, the second is a bit random & ends a bit abruptly but still enjoyable & I found the third immensely satisfying for some reason.

If it's any help my favourite book of his is "Carrie"

def worth getting, I really enjoyed it. Love love love all his earlier stuff, but didn't like Cell, then quite liked Duma Key...still haven't finished Under The Dome but pick it up every now and then. Full Dark is like old SK, and short enough to keep you turning the pages.

My favourites are Gerard's Game, The Shining, and Misery. Oh, and Firestarter. And Carrie. And Christine.

I thought the rape story was especially dark and compelling.

I really liked Gerald's Game. Couldn't get through Misery, was honestly too horrified [wimp emoticon] but I loved Dolores Claiborne.

Fusty - agree re: Cell; I thought it was rubbish - just a v mediocre re-hashing of The Stand. It made even The Road look half decent in comparisopn (I hated The Road because it was so inferior to The Stand!).

I am a huge SK fan but I was a bit on the fence with Full Dark, the rape story was quite compelling, the last one was my favourite but it wasn't his best work.

He has been a bit off since his accident though, quite enjoyed Duma Key once I got into it but thought Lisey's Story was awful. Blaze was also lacking in that it seemed he got to the end but couldn't decide how to finish so it seemed very abrupt.

My favourites of his are The Stand, Hearts in Atlantis, the Dark Tower series, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, Firestarter. Thinner is another good creepy one!

Anyway, getting back to the original question, I would say go ahead & read it! Actually, isn't there a way you can share ebooks? I have a Kindle so am happy to figure out how to 'lend' it to you if you want

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2011 22:27

I liked Lisey's Story but Hearts In Atlantis did nothing for me. I keep meaning to re-read it now the Tower has been finished as I think Ted Brautigan is in it, yes? Can't remember anything about it now though apart from something to do with being in traffic and it not exciting me much.

My favourites are The Stand (masterpiece); The Dark Tower (love, love, love this); IT and the short story Survivior Type (I washed it very carefully first!).

Oh shoot, HOW could I have forgotten about The Stand???? Stupid me. Absolute favourite!

I'd love to share any eBooks I have. I don't have a Kindle, mine's a Sony eBook reader. I have about 500 eBooks mostly in PDF format. I'll share with anyone.

Does anyone have The Stand as an eBook?

32Long · 14/05/2011 00:01

Blush It's WestCoastLotus, forgot to name-change back.

tillyfernackerpants · 17/05/2011 21:52

I'd forgotten Survivor Type! SK does do creepy very well!

It took me a while to get into The Dark Tower but I absolutely love it now. I always want Wizard & Glass to end differently, each time I read it I keep hoping Grin

I do have The Stand as an ebook so IM me if you're interested
