DD has asked for her birthday for a book about dressing up

How to do her hair
How to tie scarves
What clothes/colours go together

She is only 7....and I'm not like that at all

What can I buy her Trinny & suzanna seem a bit grown up

But it's the first time she has talked about her appearance since she was bullied (about being mixed race)- so I need something special

Help please?

Katymac, I think that looks perfect.

katymac · 04/11/2005 21:37

would this be better?

One for birthday, one for Christmas? Start with the Hello Kitty one as it is younger. The other one might be fun to look at with you though. American books are usually very good on including people of all races.

Also a voucher for Claire's Accessories and a nice shopping trip to spend it on.

katymac · 04/11/2005 22:03

I've got 4 picked on Amazon now.....I think I'll go to a book shop - I like to touch & see this sort of thing...daft aren't I

I might buy from Amazon when I've had a look

Various aunties/friends are buying scarves/flowers for her hair/stuff etc

Here I'm going to be so pathetic - I always said she wouldn't have her ears peirced unitl she was much older (I was 16) and I truley beleive that is "right" - However she wants them done....and I'm tempted

aloha · 04/11/2005 22:07

I can understand. You want to be ultra kind to her right now. I know what you mean about wanting to wait until she's older, but I don't think there is any harm in it, provided she is able to look after her ears and earrings.

katymac · 04/11/2005 22:11

Well she can't brush her own hair yet so......hmmm err of the side of caution I think

We are going on a spend (Nana's money) at ASDA tomorrow - I hope we find clothes all 4 generations going can agree on....(DD, Me, My Mum, My Nana)

She has grown out of 4 pairs of trousers so far this winter (one new, 3 from the end of last winter)

In that case! I have to say, she does sound a bit dyspraxic Katymac (sorry, I probably bang on about this endlessly!). But like your dd, my ds is hopeless physically but a fabulous reader.

katymac · 04/11/2005 22:35

You could be right - she is doing really well at the piano tho', sails well, does gym (and is to quote the teacher "so flexible - but with such control") so I'd kind of ruled it out (as they display bothe fine and gross motor control)

But you never know

OP posts:
katymac · 04/11/2005 22:36

Remember her hair is quite tight afro curls - very dry - breaks easily and needs leavein conditioner 3 to 4 times a week

OP posts:
aloha · 04/11/2005 22:36

If she's brilliant at gym, then probably not and I'll shut up . Piano is supposed to be brilliant for dyspraxic kids. Will be trying ds in a year or so, I think.

aloha · 04/11/2005 22:37

And her hair sounds quite tricky too.

katymac · 04/11/2005 22:38

She can do cartwheels, one handed cartwheels, she swims as well (400m at last badge)

OP posts:
aloha · 04/11/2005 22:39

Wow! A one-handed cartwheel! That's like saying she can fly to me - I'm, um, not very good at that sort of thing.

katymac · 04/11/2005 22:39

It's a nightmare - I hate dealing with it

I never learnt ot do afro hair and find it very hard - I rarely use conditioner never mind "products"

She uses half a shelf on it (DH supervises)

Me neither I was the child that the games teacher asked for my note each week.

The piano teacher keeps asking "did she practise this week"

I say "no"

He says "I don't know how she does it"

I think she sounds fab! A natural.
