Books set in Africa?

Hello,

Can anybody recommend any good books set in Africa? Could be fiction, travel writing or biographical/memoir, set anywhere on the continent.

Have read various Alexander McCall Smith, Wilbur Smith (but getting a bit tired of the whole "great white hunter" thing), JM Coetzee, Paul Theroux (Dark Star Safari)...

I particularly like books with a wildlife theme. Read and enjoyed a book a few years ago about a couple setting up a wildlife reserve in Zambia, but can't remember who it was by.

TIA for any and all recommendations!

Frankie and Stankie by Barbara Trapido - fiction but semi-autobiographical and contains a lot of interesting stuff about the history of south africa.

The Kramer and Zondi series of police detective novels set in apartheird-era South Africa during the 1970s and 80s - The Steam Pig, the Gooseberry Fool, The Caterpollar Cop, The Sunday Hangman.
Also I second the William Boyd books mentioned above -A Good Man In Africa, An Ice-Cream War (shortlisted for the Booker prize) and Brazzaville Beach.

Cutting for stone, it's set In Ethiopia. I loved it, it's a great read about 2 twins, the circumstances they are born In they become doctors and it's their story.

Limelight - I loved Nervous Conditions. So disappointed by the sequel though

If you are interested in nature, The Soul of the White Ant is great.

Also, The Lost World of the Kalahari

Second Graham Green, and also Unity Dow

My late addition:

George Alegiah - a passage to Africa, great non fiction book

Aminata Forna - the memory of love, fiction set in sierra leone in the aftermath of the civil war, a beautiful book that made me cry. She's written several other books set in Africa, I've not got round to them yet though.

Sorry no wildlife though...
