I seem to have become addicted...

to paranormal-type books. It all started with Twilight, and has just got worse from there. I belong to a book club, so I DO read other books as well, but I'm getting through an inordinate amount of books (I blame Kindle, and my local library seem to catering solely for me...). I used to read the classics, high-brow type books, but I literally can't put these books down!! I think I need counselling!!

It's kind of like a secret addiction - I went into Waterstones the other day, found the section of books that I wanted, only to find out they come under the heading of 'Dark Romance'. I had to leave - I can't read Dark Romance books - that's almost like reading a blood sucking version of Mills and Boon, surely?!!

You may laugh, but I can assure you - it's like the bloke who has the top shelf magazine and has to disguise it with The Times (or something). Dh thinks I've lost the plot, my friends can't believe it (other than the ones who are borrowing the books I've finished with, of course!).

Please tell me I'm not reverting to a 16 year old (however, as someone who is a long way from 16, I wouldn't mind so much if it included getting rid of the crows feet...).

Seriously though - they're a great escape, and my life is far from perfect (disabled ds1, depressed dh, deaf ds2), so I may not be able to discuss books with many people of my own age, but hey ho...

I think I might have to give the Black Dagger Brotherhood a go too - my Library are going to love me - they all laugh at me, but I think a couple of them get them out as soon as I've finished with them!!

have you read the Kate Daniels series by husband and wife duo Ilona Andrews, its my favourite series and absolutely brilliant!

IreadthereforeIam · 12/04/2011 12:10

Ooh no, not read those yet - I shall add them to my ever-growing list!! Do you know, I used to watch TV - reading has even taken over from that entirely!! There's nothing on that interests me, and I can't be bothered, to be frank. Once the boys are in bed, the books come out (actually, the books come out when I'm cooking tea, too...and other parts of the day when I can get away with it!!)

IreadthereforeIam · 12/04/2011 12:47

You do all realise you're feeding my obsession?! Thankyou!! Grin

Keep 'em coming (I may have to remortgage the house, however...). The library service has some catching up to do Wink

OP - I think you are me! Totally am with you on this. I accidentally read Twilight at christmas, after first few chapters thought meh may as well stick withn it, then suddenly from nowhere I was a pulse racing hormonal teenage girl! Lord, how have I made it to nearly forty without this genre?!

I have just finished book 5 of the Blackdagger Brotherhod....holy hot flush woman, you won't regret ordering them Wink. Only you might want to avoid the shame, I tell you shame, I went through at my local library to get my hands on them. I still haven't quite got over it, and had to order the job lot at amazon..

Ditablue · 13/04/2011 18:47

Can't believe I've only just come upon this thread...I thought I was the only one with a dark secret and love for vampire novels...I blame David Boreanaz as Angel in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Loved the Twilight series but seriously can I really at 32, go ahead and get involved with the Black Dagger Brotherhood? Promise me it will be worth the humiliation and no doubt teasing from friends and loved ones but be truly worthwhile....

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 18:58

Have you read 'shiver'

or

'fallen''

IreadthereforeIam · 13/04/2011 19:03

I'm having a bit of a Kitty the Werewolf marathon at the moment - now they are Quality!!

IreadthereforeIam · 13/04/2011 19:04

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 19:05

kitty eh...off to amazon

TiraMissYou · 13/04/2011 19:59

Dita - yes, the brotherhood is worth the humiliation and the teasing!

SandyisinCaldwell · 14/04/2011 12:47

If you want to read YA like Shiver you should try these:

The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare (first book is coming out as a film)

and

Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill.

both great!

NicknameTaken · 14/04/2011 12:48

You might like A Conspiracy of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Like Twilight but with academics instead of adolescents.

SandyisinCaldwell · 14/04/2011 12:48

Dita: The Black Dagger Brotherhood is worth it all Grin

medicalmayhem · 14/04/2011 18:00

Please give Kresley Cole's Immortals in the Dark, a go 11 books of mystical raunch its great, vamps, lykae, demons, shes got alsorts going on!

IreadthereforeIam · 14/04/2011 18:44

Oh dear God - I really don't know whether my bank balance can cope with this!!

Saying that, I'm so glad I 'fessed up - at least now I'll have no shortage of reading matter! Wink
