Can anyone recommend me a similar-ish thriller?
Or even, not a thriller - something better written and less gory would be good.
I do quite like this terse Scandi thing that's around at the moment.

Sorry can't suggest anything similar but I just wanted to add that I love Jo Nesbo too!! The Snowman and the Leopard were amazing. Got The Devil's Star on the TBR pile now.
Not tried the Stieg Larsson's yet though

I love Harry Hole! I want to go to Oslo now.
Stieg Larsson - hmm, lots and lots of sexual violence but it's ok innit, because it's political Hmm not convinced.

Anne Holt is pretty good. She's Norwegian too.

her book "1222" is being sold a lot in the UK now, but she has written many books about the same caracther and 1222 is not the first one, so don't know if i would have started with that.

Amazon have some used ones in english.
"Punishment" was very good i think (but maybe not the best read for pregnant women and mothers of a delicate disposition;)

She has two main characters, Detective Wilhelmsen and Yohanne Vik, a psychologist. Both women.

Arnaldur Indridasson's books are good! Nice and gloomy. Start with Jar City Smile

Good suggestions so far. I've read them all! Helene Tursten good too.

WowOoo · 22/03/2011 14:48

Also Ake Edwardson and Hakan Nesser good ones to try.

Oh I forgot about this thread! I've read some Indri∂arson and liked them, though I find them lighter than eg Nesbø. Iceland is quite different and that makes them more interesting than they'd be if the same writer came from elsewhere.
Going to search out the others. Meanwhile I've started on The Leopard. It has THE most gruesome murder in the first chapter!

Hope you enjoy The Leopard

I'm really enjoying it (the scenes in the hospital with his dad are heartbreaking and quite well written for a thriller).

The murders are just so over the top, it's grossly entertaining!
