Me too and The garden at Riverton is good too

JustAnother · 08/04/2011 21:45

I love it. The Distant Hours and The House at Riverton were great too

ihatethecold · 09/04/2011 13:06

sounds good, just ordered it from amazon... thanks

FreddoBaggyMac · 03/05/2011 20:25

I finished it a week or so ago and thought it was completely wonderful - took me back to reading The secret garden when I was 11! I read most of it whilst I was on holiday in Cornwall which only added to my enjoyment. I tried The house at Riverton a few years ago and just couldn't get into it... am wondering about giving it another go. I read Hothouse flower after The Forgotten garden which was a bit similar but not as good imo. Have the paperback of the Distant hours on order and am looking forward to it immensely.

Ooh-so glad someone mentioned kate Morton books-loved the Forgotten Garden and House at Riverton-just finished Distant Hours which was also great...

Have just finished this and I'm missing it so much!! have already read her other two books and was wondering if anyone could suggest something similar? thanks.

Worksitoutwithapencil · 07/08/2012 20:55

If you liked the The House At Riverton try The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood it has similar themes and is my favourite book ever Grin

BabeRuthless · 08/08/2012 06:29

She has a new one coming out later this year, think in October. Cannot wait!

GaryTankCommander · 08/08/2012 06:38

Her books are currently 20p on kindle if you're a kindle user.

ninjanurse · 08/08/2012 18:20

The 13th Tale by Diane Setterfield has a similar sort of feel as The House at Riverton.

user12785 · 08/08/2012 18:28

Yes, loved it!

butterflybuns · 08/08/2012 18:44

Loved it! Thought Eliza was more tomboyish and wild than in those pictures. Couldn't stand her cousin Rose. Thought that Rose's dad was going to turn out to be something really nasty and evil instead of just creepy. It kept me guessing all the way through which was fab, felt it was so sad at the end. Got The Distant Hours to read next, yay!

l4k · 08/08/2012 19:53

Thanks, I'll try those two suggestions.
Yes butterfly, I thought Rose's dad had an unhealthy interest in his sister and Eliza.I wonder if there was more to it?
I didn't know she has a new book due out,I can't wait either.

I loathed 'The House At Riverton' because it reminded me hugely of 'Atonement' which I also hated. So, if you like Kate Morton and haven't read 'Atonement' you will probably like that too! And yes to 'The Blind Assassin' as well - the only Margaret Atwood I have failed to reach the end of!

Familyguyfan · 11/08/2012 12:04

Absolutely adored it. And all her other books. And the blind assassin. Clearly I have a niche, but I love it!

elkiedee · 17/08/2012 11:25

Kate Morton's books haven't been on Kindle at 20p as far as I know, but the first two are currently available for under £1 - Pan Books and Macmillan's other imprints are doing a lot of offers at the moment. I think some publishers use bargain prices on the backlist as promotion for new and coming soon books.
