Before DD I used to read loads. Now, even though I have a lovely new Kindle I am finding it hard to motivate myself o read. Before I used to go and lock myself in the bathroom so that I wouldn't be disturbed.

Can anybody recommend me a book to bring back my love of reading.

I used to love Stephen King, loved the first three outlander books by Diana Gabaldon, have read all of and loved all of the Earth's Childrn books by Jean M. Auel, loved The Help and Cloudstreet. Have also read the Girl with the Dragon tattoo books.

Hated we need to talk about Kevin and am findng it difficult to get into classics. Didn't like Small Island or Memoirs of a Geisha.

Does anyone have similar tastes and could recommend something? I really miss that total absorption of a fantastic book.

TIA

Dalek

The Handmaids Tale or Oryx & Crake by Margaret Attwood (that is if I have understood your current tastes properly!)

Hi

I'm more into crime writers, but loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books and hated 'We need to talk about Kevin' too!

I've recently read a few books by Patrick Gale, which I wouldn't usually have chosen but really enjoyed (my Mum passed them to me) - I can definitely recommend his writing!

I know what you mean about needing a fantastic book to absorb you, I generally spend an hour in the bath at least once a week catching up with a good book!

I really lovedall I read of Margaret Atwood until Oryx and Crake which I just couldn't get on with at all.

Have you read anything by Jonathan Coe? I recommend him to anyone who'll listen and know he has a lot of fans on here.

The Life of Pi (Yann Martel)
Music and Silence (Rose Tremain) or, for something about shorter and also fantastic by her, The Road Home
Wolfe Hall (Hilary Mantel) - give it a go: you need at least a coupe of hours to get into it, then you're transported into another world.

Kazuo Ishiguro - esp Never Let Me Go and The Unconsoled

David Mitchell - Cloud Atlas

Doris Lessing - The Cleft

All a bit other wordly, I love them all.
