If I have read something particularly hard going I always turn to my James Herriot books for a bit of comfort . They are just so cosy and comfy and always cheer me up .

I know they are all pretty much the same
Cow dies / cow lives
grumpy/happy farmer
grumpy dog / farty dog

But I love them

What is yours ?

I have just read and loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - a great feel-good book on a par with I Capture the Castle and Love in a Cold CLimate.

They've all been said already but I adore them and have read each more times than I can count

Pride & Prejudice
Tales of the City & More Tales of the City
Anne of the Island (one of the sequels to Anne of Green Gables)
And These happy Golden Years (or others from Little House on the Prairie series)

"Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella...must have read it at least 25 times and literally know it word for word, but still love Becky Bloomwood!!

I love James Herriot! I've loved him since I was very young. Loved the TV programme too :)

Bill Bryson is nice and comforting. I remember reading 'The Lost Continent' when DP was in Africa and feeling very comforted because Bill was on his own too. It was like we were having a wee private conversation.

Jonathan Srange is another one for me - calm and quirky and lovely.

Jurassic Park was my OMG FAVE book when I was about fifteen and I think I've read it about twenty times. Dinosaurs, Evil Scientists, blood n guts - what's not to like?

Gilead - Marilynne Robinson - (avoid 'Home' its sequel). Gilead has a soothing, thoughtful vibe.

Miss Garnet's Angel is great.

The Secret Lives of Bees (I haven't seen the film)

The Eyre Affair - Jasper fforde - It makes me quake with laughter though everyone I have lent this to hasn't liked it much.
