Book to get me in the mood

Two things have happened since the birth of DS five months ago. Firstly, I've stopped reading, which is so sad as I used to gobble books up, so much so that it often felt like a guilty pleasure. The second thing to have happened is my libido has vanished and DH and I have had sex once sad.

Please can somebody recommend a book that is a great read but that also might get me in the mood? I don't mean erotic fiction as such, just a well written novel with some saucy bits would be great!

A few favourite authors are William Boyd, Sebastian Faulks, Ian McEwan, Cormac McCarthy Rose Tremain and like historical novels too.

many thanks!

The Mating & The Keeping
By Nicky Charles

they are only on Ibooks or can download to PC but are free.
Supernatural fiction (about werewolves)
good read and quite saucy.
although as author hasn't been properly published a few grammar mistakes throughout.

Enjoy

Thanks ladies, but I need to enjoy it for the quality writing too...I want to get back into reading! Anyone else?

Can't think of anything with proper saucy bits at the moment (apart from DH Lawrence of course).

Two recent reads of mine that were good, and humorous and easy to get lost in were;

One day, by David Nicholls (he wrote Starter for ten)

and

A spot of bother, by Mark Haddon.

I'm sure somebody will come along soon with a raunchy read for you......

Slightlyreluctantexpat · 07/02/2011 10:20

PS - I like the novelists you list there too. Just been flicking through Solar and On Chesil Beach (McEwan). Not much sex in the former and although Chesil Beach is all about sex, it's all about nobody getting any sex; which isn't what you're after. Not much in Ordinary Thunderstorms or Ice-Cream War (Boyd) either.

Must now stop thinking about rude books. :o

EdwardorEricCantdecide · 07/02/2011 11:22

true blood books are occasionally saucy

DharmaLovesGreg · 07/02/2011 12:11

See the problem is I don't think you are going to get very well written books that stimulate your intellect and fire up your passion for reading again, that includes smut to get other passions going again

myermay · 07/02/2011 12:14

Black dagger brother hood are very saucy in places!vampire hero books

chickinlickin · 07/02/2011 14:34

Well that's all very disappointing. Not sure if I can see myself reading one of those vampire novels to be honest.

Just been doing some research myself and have ordered a book by Erica Jong which might just hit the mark.

SlightlyReluctant I loved On Chesil Beach - you're right though, all about sex, not at all erotic but very good and so sad!! If you like William Boyd, you should read Any Human Heart. Its my favourite of his.

Try Birdsong (Sebastian Faulks) the first 3 chapters should get you in the mood, but a sad read too.

FouxDuFaFa · 08/02/2011 17:21

You could try Sally Beauman - Dark Angel on Amazon

chickinlickin · 08/02/2011 17:54

Thanks gloriana i absolutelt loved Birdsong - in fact I think it should be on school syllabuses to teach kids what their great great grandfathers went though for them... But don't remember any racy bits? In that case I must dust off my copy!

IIRC the first couple of chapters consisted of our hero tending to the er, needs of a French wooman, possibly his landlady. Then the rest is unremitting misery of war. Strange structure, I thought. :)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 08/02/2011 18:14

PMSL at putting it on the school syllabus though.

chickinlickin · 09/02/2011 09:22

I was serious actually! But maybe it isn't wholly suitable...
