dd likes the rhythm of the text in the Madeline stories, and they're pretty classic!

majorstress · 07/10/2005 13:29

mine loves Handa's Surprise, brought home from school by dd1, I finally bought it for dd2. It is different and has lasting interest as dd1 also likes it aged 5. If it isn't a classic, it should be.

Jenum71 · 07/10/2005 13:34

We love all the ones by the person who did The Gruffalo -

Room on the Broom
Squash and a squeeze
Night Monkey, Day Monkey
The smartest Giant in Town

What I like about these is they are easy to read cos they rhyme!

Jenum71 · 07/10/2005 13:34

I think Handas surpeise is a classic!

Its also a great book to make a story sack with!

Jenum71 · 07/10/2005 14:45

surpeise?!

surprise

LadyDragonOfSoup · 07/10/2005 15:37

Oh yes, Room on the Broom. Fab.

aloha · 07/10/2005 15:39

Beatrix Potter - esp tale of Peter Rabbit, known by ds when he was two as 'the scritch-scratch book' and considered almost unbearably exciting.
All the books mentioned. Definitely Mog.
Fairy stories.

MrsSpoon · 09/10/2005 22:25

The books with Bartholomew bear, Be Gentle, Go to Bed, Eat Your Dinner, erm I'm sure there are a few more.

Monkey Puzzle by the same people who wrote The Gruffalo.

Pumpkin Soup.

Not classics as such.

KBear · 09/10/2005 22:29

My DS loved the "That's not my...." series. ELC I think. Not classics but the most well-read books in our house.

That's not my train/puppy/kitten and possibly others.
