I loved TTW and WNTTAK too so hopefully you'll like my recommendation.

It's The Gargoyal by David someone (usually I'd Google for all the information but I'm on my phone and it's painfully slow!) It's about a guy who's horribly hurt I'm and accident but during his recovery a sculpturess starts visiting him and tells him amazing stories. I loved it (smile)

The Book Thief was my favourite book of 2009.

Have you read The Help by Kathyrn Stockett?

Clunge · 09/01/2011 23:49

The lovely bones. Not usually my sort of book but I really enjoyed it.

hi,

you should try Still Missing by Chevy Stevens

i read it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it!Smilethat sounds odd given what its about though...
its about a woman who gets kidnapped by a crazy man and what happens during her captivity and after... dont want to give too much away but it really is a good'un!!Smile

The Long Song by Andrea Levy is original and brilliantly written. As is Small Island. Or The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

That said, I quite liked Time Trav's Wife but wasn't wowed by it. I thought the concept was better than the execution. So you and I may have different tastes.

Why don't you pop to a bookshop then read the first pages of all the books recommended here? Then if you like it, get it. I find it's a failsafe way of choosing a book that I will love.

Arf - just noticed you loved Kevin. Funnily enough I felt the same about this book as I did about TTW!

The way to see if you can really get into a book or not is to read page 69. Apparently!

i've really enjoyed an american wife. douglas coupland is always a favourite of mine. also anything by anne tyler.

Keziahhopes · 10/01/2011 00:36

Enjoy the Help Smile

How about The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, or Her Fearful Symmetry by Niffenegger?

or a book I really enjoyed "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer.

Douglas Copeland is good - especially Girlfriend In A Coma and Miss Wyoming. However, I once thought he'd write a truly GREAT book and so far, he hasn't imho.

I liked The Help, although I thought the last quarter less good than the rest. The voices of the maids are very well realised.

I liked The Gargoyle too and The Book Thief.

Look out for Liz Jensen too - The Rapture is her latest iirc but I liked The Ninth Life Of Louis Drax and the one about time travel better.

BelligerentGhoul · 10/01/2011 20:14

Coupland, sorry.
