has anyone read this yet? I bought it yesterdau during my weekly shop. I only read the first bit and was almost in tears. It's not going to be an easy book to read

TwoIfBySea · 03/10/2005 23:08

I just bought it as well and it is next on my list after finishing my current read. I am sure it will be a real emotional read.

Flossam · 03/10/2005 23:13

I saw it today but couldn't bring myself to buy it. He was a friend of my aunties.

marthamoo · 03/10/2005 23:15

I don't think I could read this I saw Gloria Hunniford has written a book about Caron Keating and I don't think I'll be able to read that either. Can't do sad stuff since I became a Mum.

Me neither, moo

Whenever I hear about this on the tv I have to turn it off. I cannot bear to listen about it.

I cannot imagine what those poor families go through everyday.

Toomanyjewels · 03/10/2005 23:35

I have a problem with books like this I'm afraid. I can understand that it may be cathartic to write things down, but for me, something like a family tragedy would be too personal to share with the world.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 05/10/2005 19:10

i bought it this afternoon at Asda and have to admit to have read over 130 pages already.

Its not easy to read, but somehow im gripped.

I bought this book while out shopping on Thursday. Its sad to read and obviously I know the date they were found so know I am almost at that chapter. Its one of those books that are difficult to put down once you start reading it.

I am amazed by the families strength, I do not know how people can continue after something like that happening in their life, its just so sad

finished it last night, cried most of the way through. Admire Kevin Wells so much, he has written the book excellently, really putting exactly how he felt into it.
I found the parts where he had recieved information from a medium to be nothing short of astounding.
Really, really good book, i dont normally read books more than once but i could quite easily read this again.
There is nothing morbid or macabre in the book, he has written the parts about Holly's body being found and post mortom etc with great sensitivity. His hatred for Huntley is obvious( but lets face it, how else would we expect him to be?.
Its interesting to read about what was going on 'behind the scenes' in the first few days of the girls disapeering and how he felt like taking matters into his own hands ( he was unimpressed with how serious the police were taking it initially and had arranged to search 25 houses in soham, houses of people who were not born locals and outsiders. He had planned to do this dressed as a gas maintenance man, of course the police felt this was a bad idea!).

a good read, harrowing in parts and extremly sad, but you admire his family for thier courage.

Agree with you tiredmma, I found it to be a very sensitive yet emotionally powerful insight into what goes on inside a family when tragedy strikes. It was very obvious that Kevin Wells felt real anger, as any father would, and it was a shame he was so often ignored by the police. I know why they didn't tell him some things but even to let him know that, say, they had a lead but couldn't give information about it for such-and-such reason. Rather than just blank the family out.

I hope the police will take note of this book and use it to improve how they treat the victims family. Also interesting to hear how the media made some people act out of sorts, like they were celebrities rather than conferring with the family over what to say, you know who I mean.

Yes I am reading this book too. Very sad but compelling book. She was such a beautiful, caring, popular little girl. To be denied the right to grow is just so senseless!!!!

My DP cannot read things like this.....having children makes you realise how you would do anything to protect your children!!! DP said he would die for his kids and would kill for his kids too!!!! Maybe some may think this is wrong but I feel exactly the same!!!! Any parent surely in this situation would want to exact revenge, given the chance???
