For me I think it is The Passage -although I am still reading it.
Another favourite was The Help.

Bit late to this thread... but I loved the slap too, thought it was a fantastic read.

I loved American Wife too, thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable read and it made me see George W. Bush with new eyes (Blush).

I quite liked One day, as an enjoyable, read-it-in-bathtub kind of book.

And in a similar vein, I guiltily quite liked the last letter from your lover by Jojo Moyes. Not a literary read by any means, but enjoyable & fun all the same. A bit soppy, but sometimes I'm in the mood for that kind of thing (not always).

Any other great reads for 2010 now that we're in January & can look back?

Agree with The Help - wonderful book. I also second Wheelybug's Moloka'i nomination! I read it on her recommendation and loved it.

Didn't like One Day at all. Am quite tempted by the passage but it is a big commitment of a book Smile

Someone earlier mentioned Behind the scenes at the museum, I recently re-read that too and am a huge fan. Learning to swim by Clare Chambers was my other great re-read of 2010.

Oh, I also want to add Glasshopper which I've just finished. Fantastically well written book that makes you feel like your part of it. It has some of the best written characters ever imo.

I really enjoyed (and was also appalled by) "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers. Don't normally like Eggers at all, but this is crisply written and the subject matter (a true story of a Muslim family caught up in Hurricane Katrina) was fascinating.

I just finished Dark matter by Michelle Paver (but it came out in 2010) and I thought it was brilliant.

I really enjoyed another Colm Toibin - 'Brooklyn'. Beautifully written.

Am currently reading The Childrens' Book - wonderful, every page is so rich and sumptuous with beautiful names and complex characterisation.

I discovered Arnaldur Indridason's books - Marvelous!
