I'm completely addicted to his books having read the first and have got halfway through book 2, have already bought 'The girl who kicked the hornet's nest'.
Is there a writer who writes on a similar theme/style?

If only. If only there were millions of them. Apparently there are other Swedish writers who are not dissimilar but I can't tell you their names; others doubtless will.

Oooh I loved these books too, just finished The girl who kicked the hornet's nest. I didn't think I would, but bought them to see what the hoo hah was.

Will watch with interest.

He's Danish, but The Exception by Christian Jungerson is quite similar.

mdavza · 06/12/2010 16:22

Try Arnaldur Indridason and Liza Marklund. I prefer Henning Mankell and Jo Nesbo to Steig Larsson, but that's personal opninion.

HellaH · 06/12/2010 16:29

Camilla Läckberg and Mari Jungstedt are quite similar and great authors.

mdavza · 06/12/2010 16:38

Camilla L's books are not on Kindle, yet, grrrrr! Will have a look out for Mari J.

nope. she is "I am david"

ChippyMinton · 06/12/2010 16:43

Per Wahloo - Swedish crime/police stories from the 1960's - definately influenced Henning Mankel and Steig Larsson.

KangarooCaught · 06/12/2010 16:46

Like Larsson, do you need to start the Jo Nesbo books from the beginning?

My father love the Larsson trilogy which I introduced him to, so the pressure's on to find something as good or the Next Literary Big Thing since he's spent hours discussing the books with his friends.

RolandButter · 06/12/2010 16:49

I started Jo Nesbo's 'The Snowman' which is Nr7 in the series, but it didn't bother me. I think it's up to you personally wheere you want to start with it, I could be wrong. Your dad would love it, I'm sure.

KangarooCaught · 06/12/2010 20:08

Thanks Mdavza, that's helpful Smile

TotalChaos · 06/12/2010 20:12

Kanga - the Nesbo books have helpfully Hmm been translated out of order anyway. It doesn't matter that much what order you read them in, but you do inevitably end up with plot spoilers if you read out of order.

KangarooCaught · 06/12/2010 21:49

Ah, that explains a lot.

cuppatino · 13/12/2010 17:00

Peter Hoeg 'Miss Smilla's feeling for snow' is similar-ish.
