What would it be? I'm on the hunt for a new one, maybe leaning towards Valentine Warner's what to eat now, but open to suggestions! Doesn't have to be a new release just one you use and enjoy! TIA

I am very keen on River Cottage Everyday.

EauRouge · 16/10/2010 09:25

I use this Mary Berry one quite a lot.

zombishambles · 16/10/2010 09:26

Leiths cookery bible. Everythings in it - its not all flowery text and pictures but it really does the job.

castlesintheair · 16/10/2010 09:27

I do find her quite annoying and I never follow her recipes properly, but you can't be Delia imo.

castlesintheair · 16/10/2010 09:28

I've also got lot of Jamie Oliver. Again, quite annoying, but brilliant ideas/range.

How to Eat by Nigella Lawson - tons of fantastic recipes which are easy and achievable, I think it's a modern classic (I do tend to halve her sugar quantities though - my God, that woman has a sweet tooth).

Maria2007loveshersleep · 16/10/2010 18:38

I agree with How to Eat. It's way way better than all of Nigella's other cookbooks put together. Beautifully written, excellent recipes, a cookbook to take with you to bed & read before sleep Grin.

(And I agree with Lalalonglegs about the sugar quantities. She uses way too much sugar & butter but what the hell, you only live once).

Still swear by the original Delia Smith!

BarringtonWomble · 17/10/2010 11:16

I like my trusted Mary Berry book a lot too.

I have an embarrassing qty of cook books though but tbh these days I mostly use
This site more than all my books put together.

WowOoo · 17/10/2010 11:23

Barrington, that is a fab site.

Waitrose have a good one too.

Kiwij - I like the look of the Valentine Warner book. Are there many photos of him in the book?!! Grin

I only had a quick flick and didn't focus enough on the recipes.

kiwijesta · 18/10/2010 21:59

Thanks everyone! Will check these out at the library and pick the best one!

And yes, WowOoo Valentine is quite nice to look at, quite liked the name for future DC, but now its gonna be a girl, and DH vetoed it! Hehe

Nigella Lawson's How To Eat - I have so many cookbooks but this is the one I go back to time and time again.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/12/2010 21:43

Definitely Nigella's How To Eat. It is an amazing book, has all the information you need for basics like pastry and how long to cook your roasts for, plus some really lovely recipes with lots of ideas for tweaking the recipes slightly with alternative ingredients and so on.

It reads beautifully, too, imo.

WidowWadman · 11/12/2010 21:58

The River Cottage MEAT book.

tingletangle · 11/12/2010 22:00

I agree with Nigella How to Eat.

I also have a Nigel Slater I am always returning to.
