I've only just finished it, and was wondering if anyone wanted to chat

will chat if you want - ony finished reading itmyself last week after my sister gave it to me.

flamesparrow · 09/09/2005 09:55

How did you get on? I browsed a few threads already on, and lots of people seemed a bit lost by the end.

I think I've read too many fantasy books which helped me keep track more!

I loved it, read it when it first came out, then again about 4 months ago. I did get confused at some points at what ages they were, and had to do a quick check back to make sure !!
What I loved about the story was the way thier love and devotion shone though- really warms your heart kind of thing !!
It was sad though- and I hate sad things !!

codsicle · 09/09/2005 10:22

no i hated it! am the only one

flamesparrow · 09/09/2005 10:24

You're grumpy though, so I wouldn't expect anything less [pokes out tongue]

codsicle · 09/09/2005 10:24

lol

bettys · 09/09/2005 10:32

I thought it was pants - read the beginning & the end didn't really need to bother with the middle.

flamesparrow · 09/09/2005 10:34

Yeah, reading half a book will geenrally lose the effect

OP posts:
suzywong · 09/09/2005 10:35

me too!
What a drag, just couldn't find a shred of empathy for either character, gave it up after 150 pages.

bakedpotato · 09/09/2005 10:36

Snap cod bettys and suzy

boooo-rrrriiiinnnnggg

bettys · 09/09/2005 10:37

It's very rare for me to give up on a book, I agree with suzywong, the characters were not interesting enough.

Mummyvicky · 09/09/2005 10:37

The middle was crappy, the whole staying over at her parents house...went on far too long....

I felt that the end lasted too long - but maybe I just wanted to be left miserable

oh good, so not just me then.
I got it with good grace, everyone raved about it but blimey nora it was dull

and

the anomaly on the cover! It cleary says Claire is wearing Penny Loafers when they first meet and there are black Mary-Janes on the cover. That really was not a good start AFAIC

flamesparrow · 09/09/2005 10:44

I was a tad concerned about the security side of things there - Oh, so your mum says its ok to go play with some bloke... carry on.

OP posts:
Aimsywaimsysmummywummy · 09/09/2005 10:49

Sw I would never have noticed that

bettys · 09/09/2005 10:51

I borrowed 2 books from willow2 to read on holiday. One was TT'SWife (bleurgh) but the other was Case Studies by Kate Atkinson which was FANTASTIC!

Aimsywaimsysmummywummy · 09/09/2005 10:56

Bettys - I didn't like the ending of that either! I think I have a thing about bad endings!

suzywong · 09/09/2005 11:02

Case Studies is excellent isn't it

oh I always scrutinise the cover to see if the artist has actually read the book or not.

Aimsywaimsysmummywummy · 09/09/2005 11:03

But did you not feel all the chasing from the nephew was unnessesary, especially the blowing up of the house.

And did (can't remember his name) getting all the money and going off with the sister not ruin it for you?

suzywong · 09/09/2005 11:07

well it sounds like there were actually two or three interesting events, but did the writing style drag like a dawdling toddler all the way through?

MrsSpoon · 09/09/2005 22:50

I thought it was pants! I read it all the way through!

suzywong · 09/09/2005 23:44

Ha! Sucked in Mrs Spoon
