just read and very much enjoyed "The Other Boleyn Girl". I have amazed myself as I have previously been
a) completely disinterested in history
b) not remotely interested in royalty
c) a snob who prefers "contemporary fiction" or "literature"

I am tempted to read another Philipa Gregory book but think I should read something about my own country of origin iyswim....

Not in the same style but there is an amazing book centred around the potato famine called "The Whitest Flower".

the whitest flower

It's a book I couldn't put down and when I was younger at school, we never learnt about Irish history so I felt there was this huge gap in my knowledge. I lent it to so many friends that I can't remember exactly who has it now! They all loved it too.

I finished "The Other Boleyn Girl" last night, I loved it. I have always been a bit sniffy about historical fiction but I love history (hence the name!) and would like to know of similar books too/Irish history too.

I can't remember the name of this, I'll post again when and if I do but there is a novel that does feature some of Ireland's history.

It's about this young Irish girl, stolen and sold into slavery, apparently not too uncommon in the 17th century when this book is set.

It is basically a tale of this girl's experiences and what she goes through and of the other slaves on a plantation in the Caribbean.

Now it was called something like Testimony of an Irish Slave. Ok, I should probably google this...

Aha! Bingo!
