About 4 years ago while on holiday I had got fed up with exahusted my own holiday reading so borrowed one of DDs (she was 10 at the time) It was one of the Robert Muchamore "Cherub" books and I found it fun, escapist stuff and have read several others since then.

While on holiday this year she was in stitches over a book called "Spud" by a South African writer called John van de Ruit. I borrowed it at the weekend and have just finished it. Marvellously funny book!

However, she still has not managed to interest me in the Twilight saga.

Which books have your DCs introduced you to?

I have just finished the Louise Rennison books that I borrowed from dd2 13 and loved them all ,

Decorhate · 15/09/2010 17:15

I read one of the Louise Rennison books on a plane once & embarrassed dd by snorting all the time!

Really liked one called "How I Live Now" (I think)

Decorhate · 15/09/2010 17:16

by a different author whose name escapes me

Decorhate · 15/09/2010 17:17

Sorry, inadvertantly worked out how to bold!

Booboobedoo · 15/09/2010 17:30

The 'His Dark Materials' books by Philip Pullman. Everyone should read them.

(DS is only three, but my Much Younger Cousin used to recommend books to me).

ChippyMinton · 15/09/2010 17:43

Roald Dahl's autobiographies Boy and Going Solo.

KurriKurri · 15/09/2010 17:43

I liked Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus Trilogy, Eleanor Updale's Montmorency series, and one by Robin Jarvis called Thorn Ogres of Hagwood. And the Philip Pullman ones.

Sariah · 15/09/2010 17:43

Ds annoyed me for months about 3 years ago to read the twilight books. I ended up reading 3 in a week and was so upset that dh wasn't a vampire that I put off reading the last one for a year.

He also got me to read the hunger games the third one is out this week. They are a really good read.

KurriKurri · 15/09/2010 17:44

all swiped from DD I meant to say Smile

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I couln't put it down and there are 2 more to read which I am going to have to get.

Agree re His Dark materials.

Also the Judi Canavan seies and Eragon series

Ariesgirl · 15/09/2010 18:00

I urge you all to read The Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson and the Mortal Engines quartet by Philip Reeve. You must! In my humble opinion the Reeve ones are much better even than Pullman.

nymphadora · 15/09/2010 18:00

We go the other way & I buy childrens books for me the persuade dds to read them.

Artemis Fowl springs to mind

JeffVadar · 15/09/2010 18:03

I really loved the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michell Paver, and Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke.

Also have a bit of a soft spot for Hiccup Grin.

DuchessOfAvon · 15/09/2010 18:06

How I live Now is by Meg Rosoff - its great.

I enjoyed the Michelle Paver series starting with Wolf Brother - as recommended by three charming boys!

TheFirstLady · 15/09/2010 18:08

I just read Remembrance by Theresa Breslin on DD2's urging and really enjoyed it.
DD1 is always pushing books on me - OP please note I resisted Twilight for ages, but found it strangely compulsively (though v badly written) when I finally gave in.

FortiesCromarty · 15/09/2010 18:10

Any Diana Wynne Jones, particularly the Chrestomanci ones also Joan Aitken Wolves of Willoughby Chase and others.

teameric · 15/09/2010 18:14

How I live Now is a great book.
Also I really liked A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (It is the first part of a trilogy but I haven't read the other 2 yet)

MrsMadWriggle · 15/09/2010 18:16

Twilight series Blush
Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
Holes (can remember author - Louis Sachar or something)

Decorhate · 15/09/2010 18:17

Do you live in Cromarty FortiesCromarty?

BalloonSlayer · 15/09/2010 18:26

Diana Wynne Jones's The Ogre Downstairs will always be in my top 10.

5Foot5 · 15/09/2010 18:27

Ah yes - Hunger Games. DD has read these and just borrowed the latest one from a friend. DH is rather taken with them too but I haven't tried them yet.

Takver · 15/09/2010 18:31

Captain Underpants Blush
(dd & I share a rather childish sense of humour - admittedly more forgivable in an 8 y/o)

FortiesCromarty · 15/09/2010 18:32

No Decorhate, I would be Dover/Wight based on my home town but that's not such a good name Smile
