I want to swoon over the hero and get completely lost in a desparately romantic book or film.

What can you recommend?

Jane Eyre and Lady Chatterly's Lover, love the books and tv adaptations. I would give anything for Sean Bean to have me up against a tree (SPLAT)

Rhiannon - crikey. I hear you.

Georgette Heyer is prodigiously awesome. I think I even wanted my user nickname to be 'prodigious' or some variation thereof, but didn't want to seem too much like a twat. Jury's still out on that one... but the books rock. 'Regency Buck', 'Cousin Kate' and 'The Grand Sophy' for starters... the language is just great.

CS Lewis - Shadowlands

It is the story of how he met his wife, who then died. Has me in tears in writing, on film and on stage.

book and DVD

The Notebook!!!!! oh my god. very romantic sobfest.

Have not read possession because my mum met AS Byatt and said she was really aloof and up herself and basically was a bit mean to my mum! But I should probably put family loyalties to one side for the sake of a good read :)

Another vote for Georgette Heyer - I like Venetia and Frederica too. They have been reprinted.
