Noughts and Crosses is powerful stuff. I was chatting to a very well read 15 yr-old last month, and he said it's the best book he's read this year.

I've actually read some 'grown-up'(ish) fiction this summer as well ...!

I want to read Noughts and Crosses. I'm gonna get it for DS1. She was signing books in our children's bookshop a few weeks ago!

roisin · 27/08/2005 20:37

Definitely get it and read it MarsLady - you'll love it, and so will ds1 I'm sure. (I'm trying to remember how old he is? About 14? Is he enjoying watching the cricket this weekend?!)

I hadn't heard of it - just read the synopsis on Amazon: sounds worth reading (even though I don't really like Joanna Trollope).

Did you buy it or borrow it? How about if you like Noughts and Crosses I'll lend you the sequel (Knife Edge) and you lend me the Trollope?

I will have to get it from the library myself then won't I?

You're still welcome to borrow Knife Edge later in the year if you want

Dd enjoyed Noughts and Crosses when she read it - has a kind of online reading group with a couple of friends. Was 10 I think. Am a bit concerned about the total cack dd chooses to read. Think she needs a bit of Pride and Prejudice myself....
Seriously, would really appreciate any ideas for 11 year old able girly readers with absolutely no interest in science fiction or fantasy. Have done Eve Ibottson (sp) and Isabelle Allende (quite popular).
