Rereading Stephen King's "It"

Following an earlier thread, I went and bought a copy as I last read it in 1986.
I'd forgotten it has over 1300 pages!
Anyway, have made a decent start- one arm ripped off so far and the clown is under the bridge with the balloons.
I know I will be up all night.....

ooh, what's next?

"It" is just too scary to read again! Once is enough since I am a big scaredy pants and I HATE clowns - probs because of this book... they all float down here :(

It's also a sad book about bittersweet memories of childhood and how some people take childhood friendships for granted. Then you grow up and realise how difficult it is to make true friendships and you feel bad for letting go of old friends so easily when you are young...

Anyway, I loved "The Stand" although it is a tome! Ahhhh... Memories

Loved The Stand, Cujo, Firestarter, Carrie and The Long Walk.
Wasn't mad keen on The Tommyknockers , Tom Gordon or Insomnia.

Totally agree about the books changing after his accident, he's like a completely different author. However I read Duma Key and Cell and liked them!

I loved It, but the best imo has to be Pet Sematary, the sheer horror and terror in that haunted me for years. The film of it is good too.

HumphreyCobbler · 09/08/2010 21:44

I couldn't read Pet Sematary now I have children.

I like Stephen King very much, but haven't read much of his later stuff.

I really enjoyed Danse Macabre, did anyone else read that one?

The Stand is my favourite, but I love IT too. I re-read it a few months ago, and I had completely forgotten the ending, so it was like reading it for the first time.

I couldn't read The Shining again now ( I was utterly terrified of the book as an older child!!) and now I've seen the film, Jack Nicholson would be in my head.

I could never watch The Stand either, as I have images of the main characters in my head that are going to stay that way thank you.

Cujo was a very good film adaptation though.
The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me are utterly brilliant film adaptations.
I think the filmmakers did extraordinarily well.

I started re-reading IT last week and got about half way and now it's shoved down the bottom of a basket with loads of stuff on top (so the evil can't get out). Blush

The first few nights I barely slept as I was so freaked out and since then I've had to get my winter duvet out as everyone knows the monsters/evil clown can't get you under thick duvets, they can only get you if you sleep under a sheet or light blanket. Fact.
