Starting WW in 2025

I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I've braved the scales after the festivities and am horrified 😱.
I've messed around all year with calorie counting and all I've achieved is to pretty much maintain, yet it feels like I'm constantly on a diet...apart from the mad binges!
I'm seriously considering joining WW for a NY start. Do people recommend it, or is there anyone out there thinking about it too?

I joined SW 4 months ago and it gave me a good starting point, but now I just eat a healthy high protein, low carb. I don’t calorie count but don’t over eat. I eat just enough so that I’m getting hungry 1 hour before my next meal and I don’t snack between my 3 meals a day. If you want the support of a group, I would advise SW. If you feel you can go it alone stick to the adage, straight out the ground, straight of the animal, straight of the tree, or to put it another way, cut out all sugar, fat and high processed food don’t over eat and you should be ok.

I am starting in the NY too. If you decide to give it a go, would be great to chat about it. I've not had much success with calorie counting either. I like that the WW has workshops on the app starting almost every half hour, so I can find a few to keep me motivated.

I have always done WW and it does ‘work’ but I tend to put the weight back on. I re-joined in June and stuck with it until end of September; since then I have been calorie counting on Nutracheck and I’m finding that better. The pros of WW are:

  • it really pushes you to eat healthy food
  • there are plenty of zero point options which feels liberating
  • The app is easy and you don’t have to track zero point foods so it’s less of a faff than calorie counting
  • if you stick to it, it works
  • it allows you to ‘save up’ and earn points so you can be more relaxed at the weekend (which I need!)
cons ate
  • Because they have lots of ‘zero’ pointed foods, the pointed foods really add up quickly. If you don’t have the ability to cook from scratch every meal (or need to eat out or on the go sometimes) it is very easy to use up all your points very quickly and that is quite disheartening
  • due to that it’s less flexible than calorie counting
  • no in-person groups anymore
  • feels quite expensive compared to Nutracheck
