Blue free foods

Hi all - I've joined WW this weekend and I'm on Blue. Thought I would have a week with normal'ish' meals to see how it pans out with points; unsurprisingly I've been over the 23 points every day. I've just read a couple of threads in here and picked up some really good tips, but I've got a query about free foods. It says dairy and chicken are free, but it's tracking points for both when I use the app (semi skimmed milk but not skyr). Also baked beans - I had the low salt and sugar variety but it's added 4 points - I'm assuming it's due to the sauce?

TIA Smile

Me too! Fat free Greek yogurt is zero points but not semi skimmed milk, cheese etc. I was surprised at beans too as I regard small cans of the reduced sugar & salt beans as healthy but agree it must be the "reduced sugar" tomato sauce. Re chicken, fresh chicken is zero, M&S slices cooked chicken is zero BUT Sainsbury's wafer thin chicken has points - odd. Also noticed that 1 Nairn's seeded oatcake was 1 point but two were 3 points.

That aside, I'm finding it fantastic. I was worried earlier as we had a small celebration planned with treat foods and I didn't want to have the icecream etc but it worked out fine as I had a controlled amount of two of the treat things (so I joined in and didn't feel robbed), avoided the others, had veg instead of rice etc.
How are you finding it OP?

I rejigged the zero points list as I find it easier to look under food groups than alphabetical order. PM me if you want a copy.

Dairy

Greek yoghurt (plain, fat free)
Plain yoghurt (fat free)
Quark (fat free)
Soy yoghurt
Tofu

Milk isn't a free food. OP, you may find it handy to buy a really small carton of milk with a lid and use it up, wash it out and then mark with a sharpie ml on the side. I do this with the 150ml of milk I usually allocate myself a day. 150ml, skimmed milk for porridge, tea, flat white = 2 points. I prefer Skyr than plain, fat free yoghurt. It is high in protein, a good source of calcium, and contains probiotic bacteria.

@MrsEricBana I am enjoying it, despite it being a diet! I think it's because I've got myself in a place where I want to do it rather than feel I should, IYSWIM?

I used to follow weightcare years ago (fat free) but there are no longer any meetings. Didn't get on with SW so it's a positive start on this one.

Bit peeved about milk not being free though, the list definitely says dairy is free! Also chicken is odd, not being free although it says it is.

I like the app too, makes it easy to track and see what you've had, and add stuff you use regularly.

Will need to get into the swing quickly so I can start saving points for a glass of wine at the weekend!

@PermanentCobOn good idea about the small milk carton 👍🏻

So I am almost two weeks in - after eating 'normally' for the first week (minus the copious amounts of lockdown crisps, chocolate and wine I had got used to...) and being over (a lot) on points every day, I managed to lose 2lb. I've got myself more organised this week, and have been on track and under points every day except Monday. I tried the egg and banana pancakes on Sunday (bleurgh - far too sweet), and I've just printed off the hunters chicken recipe posted on a different thread for tomorrow, but thought I'd give a shout out to a lentil chilli I made yesterday that is 1 point on Blue (result!) and tastes pretty good. pinchofnom.com/recipes/vegan-chilli/

Feeling motivated to carry on! It seems to fit in well with everyday life for me Smile

Hi OP, have you downloaded the WW app? Loads of recipes on there. You can also create your own recipes, so if you have any favourites, add the ingredients in, number of servings etc. & it will point if for the plan you are on.

You can also edit existing WW recipes, swap out ingredients you don’t like or have. There are also some good WW cookbooks, and WW mag, but appreciate you may not want to spend extra money, when you are already paying per month. Disclaimer, I don’t work for WW, just been following the plan since middle Feb this year.

If you scan some free foods it can show points based on calories. I'd ask the community on the app. There's some real experts on there!
