Just wondering what people think about the new Flex part of WW.

Have you had good results?

I've not being trying in the slightest so need to get going but not sure if I'll get on with it this time.

I'm doing WW here in America. Smoked white fish is zero points here. It's a great option to have for breakfast.

It's taken me two weeks to figure it out. It's forcing me to make better choices with how to use my points. If I want chocolate and wine I have to really plan it out. It means lots of grilled chicken, fish, beans/lentils, fruit and veg for my meals. It's made it much harder to absorb DHs heavy dinners that he likes to cook.

I gained 6lbs over the holidays and since Saturday I've made it my goal to track each day. I also had my six month check up with my diet team here at NYU (Americans take weight loss very seriously) and they were saying how happy they are with the new WW program and how I should be working it for max weight loss.

Interesting supermam . I think it’s good to but can see how some die hard fans of tracking are annoyed . What works for one , doesn’t always work for the other .some people just need very strict guidelines , especially in the beginning . On the other hand , in a Dutch WW group people were talking about their hair falling out etc - I think that’s because of lack of nutritious food / restricting longer term . They just seem to scan all processed foods - yes you can lose weight but it’s not the best way long term .

I'm worried I'm going to end up eating too much. I'm a vegetarian and I'm eating lots of quorn and eggs, more than I could have afforded on the old point system.

Makes it more like SW which i tried and didn‘t like because it wasn‘t flexible enough. Not really very good for vegans. Sorry, chicken, turkey, fush and eggs don‘t do it for me.

I have only just joined and hate it. As a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs the new free foods in return for 23 points offer me nothing. Wish I hadn't wasted my money.

You can eat beans and tofu for zero points too really. Lentils are now a side for me.

I have been doing it a week. I can't believe how much weight I have put on recently. I did WW's last year and got down to my goal weight for the summer, then put on 24 lbs between then and now Shock I am really in shock as I have always been really fit and healthy. It's my age!!

I haven't read the new Flex info yet so not sure what I am doing. I used all my extra points last week in a weekend alcoholic binge. However, scales this morning say I lost 4lbs. I think my body is in shock form the sugar and mostly alcohol withdrawal.

However, scales this morning say I lost 4lbs. Well done Banyan, that's a great start. I lost 3lb in my first week, but only half this week. Very disappointing as I stuck to the plan well (I thought!). Going out this weekend so not feeling at all confident I can lose anything based on last week.

I'm on day 5 of week 1 so don't know yet whether I've lost weight but my stomach definitely feels flatter despite being on my period.

I've found it really easy and hardly felt hungry so I hope it's working, I did smart points in 2016 and was starving, I weighed 1lbs heavier after 12 weeks after snacking in the evening because I was so hungry.

Just weighed in after my 3rd week of WW's. I was a bit sceptical at the new flex program but in total I have lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks. Just 18 lbs to go bloody hell that's loads

Hate it, hate it, hate it! I dislike many of the free foods, and am not an idiot - I do not need to be taught how to eat healthily. I lost loads of weight on the old points system, and lost fairly well on Smart Points too, though this was harder. The main problem with Flex, and to some extent with Smart points is lack of flexibility. It does not enable you to tailor your diet to your own needs and tastes - a recipe for disaster.
At the same time it seems a nonsense to have 'free foods' at all - as all foods have an energy value, healthy or not, and should be counted in.

I have simply put on weight on flex, as cannot keep to it - cannot factor in foods I 'need' to eat, and so fail.

I hate it too. It’s fine if you like eggs (I don’t) fish (do but rest of family don’t) beans and pulses (partner can’t eat too many due to having had perforated colon) so it’s chicken, day in day out. I don’t have an off button so found I was starving myself as scared to eat too much of the free food. Goodness knows what WW we’re thinking when they introduced this.

I’m now back following SP only and losing again.

Inonly joined a few weeks ago so don't get what most of you are saying. Did you have more points before? Are we not still counting smart points?

Report
wadey90 · 25/06/2018 22:59

Yes you had 7 more points. Free food was only fruit and vegetables. Much easier for someone like me who doesn’t have an off switch. Also find more family friendly as don’t have to cook different meals all the time due to likes and dislikes.

I like it, but then as a family, we love chicken... also, I like to eat just 2 meals a day (which works for me) so I can get more out of my points than someone who needs to eat 3-5 smaller meals a day.

I do agree that it is much more restrictive than older WW plans, and I can see why some are not keen, And I also agree that getting caught out and needing a quick family meal isn’t as easy as it was previously! I try and always have a weekly meal plan, but I save my points (and rollovers) for the weekend, so that we have a little more flexibility.

I have lost 12.5 pounds in 5 weeks.

My tip, is to plan out your evening meal, and your points needed, before deciding what to have for breakfast/lunch, so that you dont get caught out.

Out of interest, those of you who struggle to stay within 23 pts per day, do you have sugar in tea/coffee or that kind of thing? Also, are you spending a lot of points on weekly alcohol? This is not me being judgey, I am just genuinely interested, as I dont have sugar in drinks, and have recently quit booze, so am wondering if that is why I am not struggling and others might be? If so, then this plan really isnt Suitable for all imho, as years ago, I lost a load of weight on WW and I did indulge in those things and had much more felxibility. That said, I did use to be guilty of using all my points on anything but fruit/veg and the fact that they are free now (especially peas and sweetcorn), does push me to go for those now when hungry, so that is a really positive change for me.

Still early days for me but I don’t like it. I chose WW rather than SW for a reason, and while I think in principle the idea is a decent one they’ve got the balance completely wrong. I pointed up a 300 calorie carton of soup as 13 points, which is just ridiculous. I did WW a few years back when you could choose between PP and no count, and I liked it for how adaptable it was, not forcing you into a low-fat lifestyle the way SW does.

I very nearly cancelled outright but I do like the way they calculate weeklies so am sticking with it for the moment, but I will damn well be cheating from time to time. If it doesn’t work for me I’ll reevaluate, but I’m pretty sure the plan just won’t work for me as is.

I really can’t see them keeping this plan for very long. It’s going to be unworkable for a lot of people, and the SW plan has such a wider range of free foods that I struggle to see why anyone who likes this WOE wouldn’t just do that.

Also I’m pissy as hell that they’ve removed the 5 a day and water tallies from the app. Such a useful functionality: why on earth get rid of it, especially if they’re trying to encourage a healthy lifestyle?

Anyone else planning on adapting the system?

Ok, bugger it, I’ve been reading over old threads and have discovered the Ultimate Food Value diary app. Not nearly as slick and shiny as the WW app, but it uses PPs and lets you count your 5 a day. I may very well be cancelling my WW sub after all. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking.

To follow on from my earlier post, this week I have lost 3.7 lb, I have been to pizza express twice, and had a large bacon baguette at a cafe’ once as a treat and second was bribed by my daughter... (leggera american hot is 13 points much more worth it than your soup Corvus! -which soup is 13 points btw??) Also after rolling points over this week I had 30 spare yesterday, so after a relatively healthy dinner, (fajitas) treated myself to some chocolate cake, raspberries and single cream. I have never felt better on a diet, (and last year I tried vegan) I am easily getting my 5 a day +, I am walking more than ever before, I have bags of energy and If I am hungry, am learning to reach for healthy ‘free snacks’ or point some nuts instead. What I try and avoid (which is what I hated about SW) is fill myself on sugary ‘low fat’ puddingy things or stuff loaded with artifical sweetners, I would rather save up once a week for something that is the real deal like last nights cake, or a takeaway, ‘maccas’, chinese, thai, nandos etc...

I do use ‘some’ reduced fat dairy products, including fat free natural yoghurt etc, but this works for me as I have no gall bladder and need to watch my total fat intake, otherwise I get rubbish side effects! 😬

I think the important thing with any weight loss programme, aside from giving it a fair crack and some time to adjust, is to find what works for you, for some that is WW, others atkins, some love fasting etc... it doesnt matter and can be trial and error until you hit that “aha!” moment, where it just feels right. Keep on keeping on folks! And if WW flex is not working for you, don’t give up altogether, just find something else that does Smile

Just to clarify, my daughter bribed me to go to Pizza express a second time, not to eat a second bacon baguette... lol Confused
