SUGAR - Going cold turkey.

I have came to the conclusion that I am a sugaroholic and it has to change, so I am going cold turkey. I can't just have one biscuit, I have 4. I can't have one chocolate bar... I had malteasers and chrunchie last night! I plan to limit myself to natural sugars and a 'treat' at the weekend.

Has anyone else done this? I am also lowering carbs but all in line with WW pro points.

All suggestions welcome.

I went cold turkey about 8 months after dc2. I was mainlining the stuff, often having a mountainous hot chocolate, with loads of marshmallows and lots of chocolate instead of a meal.

I was sleep-deprived and did it for the energy. But felt bad, so stopped. No sugar now. I feel great.

So go for it, cold turkey is best. But just remember that the first couple of days will be the worst, if you can do that it will get better.

I don't know anything about Ww but I gave up sugar in 2012 for 6 months. After 2 weeks of feeling shattered, I began to feel so much more energetic. I have just given up again. I simply can't moderate my sugar intake. I find that having porridge for breakfast and keeping a tonne of fruit and Nairns cheese oatcakes on hand through the first week helps, even though the fruit is full of sugar too...

I am going cold turkey too. I had so much chocolate over Christmas and it has generally become such a regular part of my diet it has to change. It is certainly affecting my waistline but also my skin, teeth and I am sure contributes to this feeling of sluggishness.

I saw Davina on Loose Women today. Blush She said you don't need sugar. You need protein, fat, carbs but not sugar. At all. Shock

I went cold turkey last year for lent, unfortunately it tended to make me moody- but I think I might follow your lead as currently I have a normal breakfast followed by chocolate and sweets every 15 mins or so until dinner (no lunch). Feeling awful just now!

Glad to see I am not alone. I have survived the first day and do feel a bit sluggish/exhausted tbh.

I am on 33pp's a day and used to think 'oh yes, plenty to include a chocolate bar' but I honestly can't just have one.
My friend has suggested I keep my sweet treat for last thing at night to avoid eating more but I honestly think I need to limit myself to a few treats a week and plan ahead. In this weeks meal plan is an M&S count on us choc mouse for Saturday and a crunchie bar to have with a cup of tea during Sherlock on Sunday night... other than that it is only natural sugars in fruit, low sugar cereal like porridge and all bran, natural yogurt, nuts etc.

I am about to have a my high protein chicken and bacon salad for lunch, 7pp:

90g chicken 3pp
2 bacon medalions 1pp
cherry tomatoes 0pp
baby gem lettuce 0pp
2tbs fat free dressing 0pp
WW pitta brad 3pp

Then a bowl of strawberries Smile.

What are you guys eating today?

I did weight watchers for a few months back in 2012 and lost a stone and a half and have just started again following my sons birth 4 months ago. My main problem is sugar - biscuits in particular! so easy to grab three or four when he first wakes up instead of having a proper breakfast. I really cant go totally cold turkey but I have found things that help. One big thing is that certain sweet food comparisons apall me so much! you can cook a giant roast beef dinner for 8 points or have 4 biscuits. No brainer. An english breakfast muffin isn't healthy it's 6 points which is the same as a krispy kreme doughnut! there's also a few low point sugar items I find really help when you just really want something sweet.

Adding a meringue nest with your strawberries is only 1 point.
I keep ice lollys in the freezer, mini milks and mini twisters are 1 point, strawberry splits are 2.
Options hot chocolate is 1 point.
Kinder maxi bars - 2 points.

planning your food for the day is key, if you are going out for dinner, have a lower points breakfast and lunch.]

I've also made soups from the covent garden soup book and most are 3 or 4 points per portion even the ones with pasta!
