Never really followed a diet but would like to shift some weight and lower my cholestral ( can't spell that). Can anyone advise me where to begin?...think I need a book, but which one?

The only book I've ever used with any kind of success was called 'the little black dress diet' which wasn't actually as cringingly girly as it sounds. IIRC it had lots of sensible nutritional advice because after all the only diet that really works long-term is the "eat less crap and move around more" diet.

Thanks rc - lol at the eat less crap and move around more - I need it in b/w...off to google book

None. Diets do not work in the long term. Any of them. It's better to change your attitude to food.

I know you have not been a yo-yo dieter but I'm sure the information in this book would help.

It's a revelation.

What's the revelation?...I have always been someone who had big meals growing up and was a skinny minny - no I can't get away with big meals, but find it really hard to eat smaller portions, plus dp is thin and needs to put a bit of weight on (he cycles lots)

It's amazing, really helped me to lose weight.

Very simple ideas really, eat what you want but take time, putting your fork down in between mouthfuls. Be aware of when you are satisfied and only eat when you are hungry, not when time dictates you should.

Sounds easy but takes a little time getting used to it, especially recognising when you have had enough. I've discovered I am satisfied on far less food than I previously ate. Also have worked out why I overate in the past and have dealt with it.

Would really recommend anyone read it.
