Top Distraction Tips

As a emotional/boredom/serial picker/constant snacker eater type, as so many of us are, I thought a thread with top distraction techniques could help the battle of the constant snacking.

I am trying very hard to recognise my body's hunger signs and shift some bloody weight but I am always heading to the fridge and obsessing about food.

So I will start with a tip I was once given which was to brush your teeth when you felt a snack attack coming on as a fresh minty nouth outs you off. I find that works at night. (sometimes )

Anyone have any better tips? If we have a huge list maybe we can always find one that works.

I have a list of reasons I want to lose weight in the notes section of my phone. Reading / editing it is a useful distraction.

Drink a glass of water. Sometimes we mistake thirst for hunger.

Any kind of exercise that gets me breathing harder tends to take my desire to eat away.

Looking at pictures that I hate because I look fat in them. Put up one such picture on the fridge.

do your nails. It takes a reeally long time to do it all, and you cant pick while youre sat with wet nails.

Also, start a jigsaw. I know it sounds really stupid (and old ladyish), but when you're sat in front of the telly, you can kill a couple of hours and not think about snacking if you have something to do with your hands and brain (no matter how pointless!)

I should point out that these are ideas that do work if you do them, but I am still wildly overweight and failing miserably at my current diet!!

I always do housework when the cravings hit. Or drink a cup of coffee or glass of water. Or have an apple.

Oh yes, along the same lines as the jigsaw idea, knitting or crocheting is fabulous for occupying your hands and brain. I found knitting particularly helpful when I gave up smoking.

I have a tendency to wear an elastic band on my wrist and if I feel hungry I'll snap it once or twice. It'll make me rethink whether I'm really hungry or just eating emotionally.
