Hi, I was wondering if anyone with any experience of Personal Training could give me some general info please? I'm not sure what the going rate in the South East is and what if any cons there are to going down this route?
TIA

can I ask why you are thinking of gettin g one?

MunchkinsMumof2 · 25/06/2010 15:50

I am overweight (BMI 26) and fed up with my low self esteem. I have tried everything and the only way I have lost weight was Lighter Life where I effectively starved myself for 3 months and unsurprisingly lost 3 stone I don't enjoy going to the gym and thought that this route could be good for motivation / confidence. What are your thoughts?

have a look at some of the diet threads on here - in the past I have been to Slimming World & lost 5 stone with them fairly easily - re gyms I do currently go to one but by far my favourite non gym thing to do is a DVD Jillian Micheals 30 DAY SHRED - take a look at our thread on here. Only 25 mins a day - it rocks. Plus if you get it of Amazon or EBAY its far cheaper than a personal trainer.

Another poss if you have a Wii is EA SPort Personal Trainer.

btw - I'm only on here at work - so will not be replying til Monday now

they are all £30 per hours in my area in the midlands.

You get good and bad or indifferent.
I have seen the results of a few good ones - one in particular has helped a girl/woman to lose over 6 stone and keep that weight off for 2 years..

i would go along with the personel trianer as if you are spending that amount of money on it - what would be the point in eating a crap diet

Thank you both! I didn't know about the 30 day Shred and will def look for it on Amazon. Thanks again

Depends how disciplined you are, I got amazing results with one personal trainer and another made no difference at all. Weight lifting I find is the key and effective cardio ie getting sweaty, lifting bottles of water or baked beans cans in my living room did nothing for me at all.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 25/06/2010 22:19

I think I can be disciplined when I am held to account. The PT I am meeting with next week is newly qualified, eager and has already suggested a menu plan combined with different exercises and I've wasted too much money and time on hopeless programs to date to not give this my 100% commitment.
Thank you for replying!

I am not sure about price where you are but mine cost me £35 an hour but he did 12 sessions for £350. Initially (the first 6 weeks) I saw him 2 or 3 times a week and once I was getting some results, feeling more confident and I went down to 1 session a week and then I saw him once a month for motivational reasons and to keep me on track. I have just ha my DD and can't wait to get back on track.

The only con for me was the cost initially but it was worth it in the end.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 25/06/2010 22:46

Thank you! That's what I was hoping to hear. I think the cost will be a factor but what price happiness after years of throwing money at short term fixes eh? I'm glad it has worked for you and wish you continued success
