Exercising with Dodgy Knee

MissWooWoo · 24/06/2010 14:15

I have a dodgy knee and cannot do anything exercise that puts stress on it so no running, star jumps, lunges etc. I've been doing a bit of yoga and of course there's always swimming but what else can I do that won't damage my knee further to aid weight loss and tone up? Have access to open air gym, park, lounge with dvd access

Aqua aerobics?

Can you cycle - non weight bearing?

I have just had a minor knee op. I do lots of walking (probably about 3 miles a day), have been told to do cycling and lunges.

even walking makes it worse tbh ... I should really get it looked at, it's not getting any better.

Yes you should get it looked at. My DH had knee up earlier this year (key hole surgery, day case, and now able to run etc.) I have just damaged my knee running and physio thinks it is same problem (cant remember the technical term but I think it is little bits of bone rubbing together). Anyway, you probably need to get refered for an MRI scan and hopefully it can all be sorted out ...

Meanwhile, if it is a similar problem, cycling should be OK.

Good luck

build up the muscles in your leg with weight lifting - light weight, high rep - pilates and strength training as much as possible, as well as core strength.

my right knee is full of pins and my left has very little cartilage in the meniscus.
