N00b. Anyone else found success with dipping in and out of the Special K diet?

Me and DH have been doing the Special K diet off and on since Christmas, and I have lost some weight - don't ask me how much, I only measure by how my clothes fit - but I am starting to get a bit fed up with my slow progress.

And yet, I KNOW that weight loss takes a long time - esp. if you have a lot to lose (and I do!!). I've NEVER had much success with weight loss, and have normally given up long before now. I'm not doing any extra exercise, through lack of time (it's exam time at school - I'm also shattered with revision classes, etc.), and I know that exercising would make things quicker, but I don't have the extra energy to give just now.

Someone please give me words of encouragement - I've not gone down a whole dress size or anything, but I was getting there.

Cheers,

Meow75

Hi Meow75.

When you say you dip in an out of the special k diet, do you mean you do that whole 2 week special k breakfast and lunch thing?
I tried it once and couldn't get beyond 5 days! I find Special k has far too much sugar in it anyway.
What kind of things are you eating when youre not on Special k? A healthy low gi or low carb diet then would speed up your weight loss.

As for exercise, I'm doing the 30 day shred. We've see some really good results on that thread and the dvd sessions are only 20mins long. I find on the days I exercise I have more energy too.

Thanks Squidmission

I did the two weeks, two meals in January, and then since then I've had approximately a week on, week off but it's not quite as rigid as that.

When I'm not doing the cereal thing, I try to simply observe low-fat eating. I don't really like, for myself, the low carb type of diets.

I'm hoping that once school is over in a few weeks' time, I'll have more motivation to do some exercise - I know about the more exercise, more energy thing, but someone (I know, I know, me ) has to get rid of the Lethargy Monster that invades my home after work

As for the sweetness aspect of Special K - I have a REALLY sweet tooth, so Sp K is better than having something like Cinnamon Grahams or Pain au Chocolat/Croissants. I'm dealing with the sweet tooth as best as I can.

I've had 2 pieces of toast and a cuppa tea without sugar for breakfast this morning. Am hoping to be able to stay away from the snacks while the football is on - managed it yesterday!!

Staying away from snacking on rubbish is one of the best things to do.
Also, really look at what you're eating. A diet high in refined and sugary products can cause lethargy too. I know you're busy and a hectic lifestyle will make you tired but switching to wholegrain products, less sugar and more fruit and veg will help you feel more energetic.
Its really helped me to get rid of lethargy, which I used to feel constantly.

I have lost 10lbs since the beginning of the year and yes, its really slow and I really want to speed it up but on the other hand, its not ever gonna come back on!

Good luck!

Thanks for your positivity, Squid.

Even just the discussion about this has renewed me a little. Currently eating a salad

Special K isn't that awesome a cereal - you might be better off with a different one. I know it isn't anywhere near as appetising, but All Bran has fewer calories and lots more protein and fibre than most breakfast cereals, so keeps you going for far longer.

At the moment (and my weight loss technique generally changes month to month) I'm having a protein shake for breakfast, a bowl of All Bran with skimmed milk for lunch and then my normal dinner.

I've found it really filling, and haven't been snacking at all.

Oh, and if you can (and no I don't get commission for this, but I should) try the 30 Day Shred. It's done wonders for me.
