Surviving on 18 WW points help!

Tinkerisdead · 18/06/2010 16:31

I'm doing WW unofficially, in that I have my friends recipe books/starter book etc to work from.

I was 10st 6lb 6 weeks ago and now I'm 9st 7lb. Great. But my points have dropped to 18 and I am really really struggling now, my DH is still on 30 points so i'm planning around evening meals which helps to stop me snacking in evening. But it feels like i'm eating nothing.

I do have a few coffees(1 Sugar & Milk) through the day as at home with 18 month old and crave that caffine fix. Breakfast is 1 slice toast & Coffee. Lunch is usually sandwich and rice cakes/baked crisps or soup or eggs on toast.
Dinner is WW recipe like chicken stroganoff and rice/chicken lasagne etc.

Help, when I write it down I can see I'm eating poorly and it just seems like i'm winging it to get to a substantial evening meal at the end of each day. I should add that I cant get to WW meetings etc as no-one to have DD and online membership seems expensive so i'm trying to find my way on my own. Can anyone help me?

do slimming world instead and you can eat as much as you like.......

Forgive the obvious question but why are you trying lose weight at 9 and a half stone.

I'm only 5ft tall and at that weight I'd be a nice size 10/12.

Any chance that's your 'normal' optimum weight?

The only advice I'd give is that i had the same problem nearly 15 years ago on 18 points - not being able to stick to it is what made me give up - if I were you now and I was as hungry as you describe I would probably switch to low-carb as the protein will be more filling.

AlCrowley · 18/06/2010 17:57

Most fruit/veg is 0 points. Could you not bulk up with that?

I'm doing online WW - online reg is free atm

there are some quite good low point/pointless foods you can make. I used to survive on a fairly pointless curry - shove loads of butternut squash and other veggies in it. Will see if I can find and paste the recipe...

Totally pointless curry:

Ingredients

5 spray low-fat cooking spray
1 large onion(s), finely chopped
2 clove garlic, crushed
1 piece ginger, 2.5cm (1 inch) peeled and finely chopped
2 tablespoon curry powder, (or according to taste)
450 g butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and chopped
1 medium portion cauliflower, broken into florets
1 medium courgette, sliced
1 medium Pepper, red, deseeded and chopped
125 g green beans, sliced
800 g canned tomatoes, chopped
1 portion stock cube, made up to 450 ml (3/4 pint) as per packet instructions
2 tablespoon fresh coriander, a handful, including stalks, roughly chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
1/2 teaspoon pepper, freshly ground, to taste

Instructions
Mist a large saucepan with spray cooking oil. Sauté onion, garlic and ginger until softened, but not browned, about 3-4 minutes.

Add curry powder and stir well, then add all the vegetables, canned tomatoes, stock and most of the coriander. Heat until boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 45 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.

Check seasoning, adding salt and pepper to taste.

Serve, garnished with coriander.
Notes
Garnish each portion with 2 tbsp low fat plain yogurt mixed with chopped fresh mint and serve with brown or wild rice. You could add a 400g can of chick peas to the curry to make it more filling. Drain and rinse, then add with the tomatoes.

Are you very short? I'm 5 foot 7 and a size 10 at 10 stone. 9 stone 7 is fine, I would have thought, and to have lost a stone in 6 weeks is great, well done

Lauriefairycake · 18/06/2010 18:20

Ah, i didn't see that you'd lost a stone in six weeks - that's very quick and your body is probably wanting a bit more food after its shock - no wonder your hungry

Bumbleconfusus · 19/06/2010 11:21

I used to find if I did an hour or so walking each day I had more points to use, and it also used up some of the time during the day, so I was more satisfied....

Eglu · 19/06/2010 11:25

Can you not use sweeteners instead of sugar in your coffee. I started on 18pts and went down to 16, so it can be done.

Also try and make most of your snacks zero points.

Tinkerisdead · 19/06/2010 12:13

Hi all, thank you for such helpful responses. You are all taking much more sense. Points are going on bread for toast, sugar in coffee (yep should switch to sweetner obvious isnt it!) meals at night are pasta/potatoes/chicken etc. I should bulk stuff out with vegetables and making some 0 points curry/soup would actually probably really help. I'll do that this weekend.

In the first couple of weeks i was out with the buggy or on my bike so i was able to get some points back but DD has been ill so I've been bit more housebound and really starting to lose motivation. But some great tips here.

I am 5ft 2" and I'm now a 12 on the bottom, and a 14 on top. I've just got huge wobbly belly, big c section scar and overhang and my boobs are about 38e now and making me look far far bigger than i probably am. I used to be an 8/10 but I'd just like to get to a 10/12 now. Prob far more going on in my head rather than just the weight thing but I feel like if I could slim down a bit and just feel a little bit more like me again it may help.

Didnt know online was free at the moment. Thank you for the tip xx

I found sandwiches a real point stealer - my best lunch solutions were giant salads with protein on top.

Base salad: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, thin sliced red onions, radishes, chopped celery

Protein options: grilled skinless chicken breast, big handful of prawns (they are super low points, though expensive!), light halloumi cheese, light feta, grilled turkey breast, leftover taco mince, grilled salmon, wafer thin ham sliced up.

For dressing I usually do a teaspoon of some really good extra virgin olive oil and a squeeze of lemon, or maybe shaken up with some dijon mustard.

Basically all you're counting is the dressing and the protein, so it can be 4 or 5 points and quite big. I usually fill a small mixing bowl with the no points salad stuff, and add the protein on top cut fairly small so I get bits of it throughout.

That curry recipe looks great, I'm going to definitely try it.

Best of luck... I'm still on 30 points as I'm still breastfeeding, I'm dreading it when I stop as I'll drop down to 20 or so. Ugh.

Do more exercise and you'll get extra ppoints to eat.
