whay do you currently eat??

cut out bread/pasta/rice....i instantly felt better

FabIsGettingFit · 17/06/2010 21:06

Also, I need to tell you I have massive food issues from not being fed as a child so I need to take them and throw them out.

Breakfast is hit and miss. Nothing, or a piece of bread, sometimes cereal, sometimes food item that isn't breakfast food.

Lunch is normally salad with low fat dressing and I sometimes add something - cheese/olives/Italian meats.

Dinner is at 7pm ish and is a proper dinner. Tonight we had pork in a creamy mushroom sauce, courgettes, sweetcorn and new potatoes. Then I ate a whole bar of dairy milk.

I can recommend: porridge with fresh berries, cut out all soft drinks except water, tea and coffee, lots of homemade fat free soup with brown/seedy bread, apple, strawberries, blueberries, mango, eggs (done in any way, especially at breakfast) hth

Have you thought about the GI / GL type approaches - basically eating slow release carbs, little or no processed foods, 5 portions fruit and veg a day 1.5 to 2 litres liquids a day, cut right back on booze (max 14 units per week with 3 no alcohol days)? Deffo don't miss meals - 3 meals per day and healthy snacks in between - never go longer than 4 hrs without eating even if you just have a smoothie or a couple of Ryvitas with some sort of topping (hummous, unsweetened peanut butter etc). Plain choc, smoothies, fruit for getting sugar cravings under control. 'Good' fats and dairy in moderation. I've done this before and you feel really good on it - much more energy and the weight comes off steadily without being hungry. Having said all that I've been awful recently - too much wine and lots of emotional eating of all sorts of crap so have piled weight on and feel rubbish. I also need to lose 2 stone

Thank you.

I should know all this.

and exercise....

duckyfuzz · 17/06/2010 21:16

cut out refined carbs, always eat breakfast, no snacks except fruit, salad, seeds, nothing after dinner, think twice (or more!) before you buy chocolate/crisps etc

FabIsGettingFit · 17/06/2010 21:19

I have been exercising nearly every day for the last 60 days and have lost zilch.

I need ways to stop the stupid emotional eating too.

Try to start looking at food as fuel for your body and something that it needs to function in the best way, rather than looking at food as something you shouldn't really have etc. This is especially true if you are exercising as you will see the results far more quickly if you are eating good protein and fats etc.
Try and eat five times a day, think of your snacks as a second breakfast and second lunch, and make sure it combines some carbs and protein. Try and cut out carbs like white bread etc and have wholegrain bread, wholewheat pasta, brown rice. For breakfast make sure you have a combination of carbs and protein, at lunch and dinner load half your plate with salad/vegetables and then split the other half between wholegrain carbs and lean protein.

Try and eat every three hours, have a rough idea of what you are going to eat that day and then you know you always have something nice to look forward to.

FabIsGettingFit · 17/06/2010 21:35

So I can have brown pasta and brown bread? I am confused as I thought I should leave off pasta and bread if I wanted to lose weight.

Your body needs SOME carbs, but most people tend to eat far too much. Unless you are doing a really physical job, or are doing lots of long distance running, then cut back on the carbs and increase your protein. I have a couple of slices of brown bread with eggs in the morning, a large seeded roll with lunch and then try to stay away from starchy carbs in the evening, so have things like sweet potato chips instead and loads of different veg. I could not live without bread

LostGirl · 17/06/2010 21:41

What sort of exercise are you doing, are you enjoying it?

FabIsGettingFit · 17/06/2010 21:44

I do enjoy the exercise and do an hour most days. I use the wii and do some yoga, steps, hula hopping though not keen on that, jogging, cycling, muscle work. I bought the personal trainer one but can't get the damn thing to work so go back to the normal wii.

LostGirl · 17/06/2010 21:56

Great, as long as you are enjoying it then you are more likely to keep it up. Try not to do the same thing everyday as your body adapts very quickly and once it gets used to something it works out how to do it with the least effort! By changing your workouts regularly, say every three weeks you are forcing your body to have to keep adapting and make changes, build muscle etc (which is a good thing, don't be afraid to use weights, you will not bulk up and increasing your muscle mass will increase your metabolism, yay!) This is one of the reasons why I think the 30 Day shred dvd is so effective as you change what you do every couple of weeks.

HurleySatOnMe · 17/06/2010 22:03

I think the wii is lulling you into a false sense of security as far as the exercising goes. Why not take that hour and get out of the house for a brisk walk? Hula hooping and yoga steps are not going to help you lose weight.
WHat works for me is low carb and a very active lifestyle since I stopped working. I have a young child with me all day so I take the buggy for long walks, run around the park, basically I don't sit still. I worry that when I do go back to work the weight will come back on as I would find it hard to find time to do proper exercise. The constant movement and a low carb diet have helped me shed the best part of 5 stone over less than 8 months.

duckyfuzz · 17/06/2010 22:33

Wii fit won't really help but the personal trainer will its much better

FabIsGettingFit · 18/06/2010 06:55

But it won't work. It registers the first thing I do but then nothing.

OP posts:
FabIsGettingFit · 18/06/2010 07:12

Th is so frustrating me.

It registered the walking and running it told me to do and the first squat. Then nothing.

FabIsGettingFit - go on the EA forum for personal trainer it has loads of help on there. Simple cures tho - do you have the nunchuck the right way round in the strap? Are the batteries fully powered?

FabIsGettingFit · 18/06/2010 10:18

Hi Joby

I ran and walked round the garden for 15 minutes and then dh had a go and then I was able to get it to work for most of the time. I will stick with the EA as long as I can get it to read me. I think I may have been a tad inpatient too.
