I have read some thing in the paper (daily mail) and it all rang totally true for me.

it seems from internet stuff that cutting carbs and doign exercise would help which is what would be suggested for any weightloss but just wandered if anything else helped.

This is really funny! I read the exact same article today by the beauty editor of Glamour magazine and I suddenly thought that perhaps this is what I have! The only time I lost lots of weight was when I did the Cambridge diet and that's very low/no carbs and I do have type 2 diabetes in the family.

The only thing different in symptoms for me is that most of my fat is around my bum and thighs/calves and not my middle. wonder if anywhere other than Harrods does that body scan?

I read it too. Deffo me. I had GD when pregnant, we have type 2 diabetes in the family and I put on weight really easily even on a low calorie diet and can't lose it. Am having almost no carbs for that reason.

I have this. I also have type 2 diabetes in the family and had GD when PG.

I think the best diet is the GI diet for this. Its low carb rather than no carb, and you just eat food that is unrefined, e.g. wholemeal bread with seeds/grains, wholeheat pasta/ rice. The more unrefined the better, eg stoneground flour etc, no sugar ( which is really hard, as people with insulin resistance crave it) and cut out caffeine. Alcohol should be small glass red wine, no spirits.

I felt really good when I did it. My periods wee irregular and they regulated and I lost weight. I stopped doing it though stupidly, but now have to really get going again.

sounds very similar to me. When I reads up about IR earlier today, it seemed as though IR is a precursor to type II diabetes? Is that right?

so sorry for the delay in coming back but I have been thinking alot about this, I was really thin until I was 19 and since then I can't seem to stop gaining weight, the only tie I have ever lost weight is when I am pregnant, I lost 3 stone ech time.

I am going to have a look into low GI stuff.
I need to loose about 3 stone and although I don't want to do it overnight, I don't want it to take years...

losing weight in pregnancy is due to GD isn't it? My friend had twins and lost loads of weight during her pregnancy. It was quite surreal when you knew she was having twins!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 07/06/2010 22:19

was surreal that I had to go out and buy smaller clothes during pregnancy not bigger ones.
shame that as soon as they were out I started gaining weight again and by the time they were 9 months old I had gained it all agian
