I know it's been done before I'm sure but I haven't got time to hunt all the MN advice and thinking. I need something I'm growing slowly by 2kgs a year and it has to stop and go into reverse. I'm 5'6 12 stones & 47yrs and love my food also use snacks as a way of coping with the day!! I have go go right now and do some house work then shopping but I'll be back later honest. (working so hard should work but it doesn't)

I don't think at that weight you need to consider these pills. Will power doesn't come in pill form. You need to find a sustainable method that works for you. For me, it was going low carb and essentially cutting out sugar. The weight flew off and has stayed off.

BariatricObama · 07/06/2010 11:17

are these the ones that make you anally incontinent and poo oil everywhere? if so, do you really need anymore info than that?

Nuttybear · 07/06/2010 11:28

yes but only if you eat the wrong foods. That should motivate me into not having that latte and milky way on my way to work! The embrassement might do the trick that will power cannot. But sorry I have no will power I did when I was younger but its gone.

I got prescribed the double strength ones from the GP.

I would rather put weight on than live like that.

Nuttybear · 07/06/2010 13:50

Oh! Yes it did say that you had to be very careful with the presribed ones and stick to the rules. The ones you can buy over the counter are half the strength.

Copy and paste from a thread I posted on last week.

I've been using it for 2 weeks now, had great results with minimal side effects. I've even pushed the fat content, although the day after I had fish and chips wasn't exactly great. Even still, I've never been caught short, or had any accidents, so I'd class that as a definite plus. In a way I'd prefer it if I did get more side effects, so then I definitely wouldn't sneak stuff in like fish and chips (even if it was a half portion and lightly battered).

I'm combining it with a low calorie/low fat diet and a lot of exercise. I try not to go over 25g of fat a day, and my calorie limit is 1600. As well as the usual running around after a 2 year old and walking, I'm doing the 30 day shred which is HARD work, but I'm already seeing results.

I think Alli is a really great product, but you have to combine it with a low fat (specifically) and low calorie (ideally) diet, and a bit of exercise. There's no point in getting it unless you're really committed to losing weight though, as it is expensive and not something that should be taken lightly.

Because of the success I've had with Alli and the 30 day shred, I'm revising my weight loss target, aiming to lose another stone on top of the 2 I've already lost.

To be honest though, it sounds like you're an emotional eater - maybe something like Paul McKenna would suit you better.

Nuttybear · 10/06/2010 09:44

Naetha, Spot-on yes I am an emotional eater.
I have tried Paul Mckenna but to embrassed to listen to it with DH around. I don't have the time in the day to listen to it. I might buy an ipod so I can maybe listen to it going to work & for exercise music to motivate me.
What is 30 day shred?
Wow you've lost 2 stones. That is fab. Glad to hear your point of view.

30 Day Shred

There's a Paul McKenna thread on here somewhere - lots of discussions about the best time and place to listen etc.

Nuttybear · 10/06/2010 16:14

Thank you. I'll give it a look

Have you looked at the Zoe Harcombe diet? It has really worked for me, and whilst my weight loss has slowed, I feel much more in control of my eating. I have also found I am on much more of an even keel emotionally, which I pt down to not having big swings of blood sugar.

Nuttybear · 10/06/2010 19:28

Thank you I sadly I have a huge pile of diet ans exercise books I need something to seriously kick start my weight lose. Going to pack my bag tonight to go to the gym in the morning. But i know I'm going to have a hard time over the weekend as the school have asked for cakes to be made for the school Fete. How can not do a taste test!!!!

OP posts:
Naetha · 10/06/2010 19:52

The trick is to do a taste test, but not eat half the batch. It's what I used to be terrible for. I now get more enjoyment from giving away my cakes and biscuits than eating them.

I know it sounds obvious, but you really need to want to lose weight.

Set yourself achievable goals and objectives. Set milestones and rewards along the way.

For example - I decided back in January that I wanted to get to 75kg by 1st July (I was 90.5kg at the time). I decided that if I was on track (i.e. following the line on the graph) by the 1st May, then I would book an appointment to get a tattoo on my leg in July. When I got into size 14 as well, I promised myself £100 on new clothes. I've also charity shopped all my size 18 clothes and most of my size 16 clothes, so I know there's no going back. Going shopping as a size 14 the other day, was one of the most liberating things I've done.

The only thing that can kick start your weight loss is you, but I know you can do it

Best of luck!

Nuttybear · 10/06/2010 22:26

Thank you, Naetha I know your right. Buying another diet book isn't going to do it. Im just putting the washing machine on now to make sure I've got my kit bag ready for the morning to go to the gym. I got into a habit of doing chores first then running out of time to do exercise. I'm going to exercise first then going to rush around doing chores. By doing exercise first maybe it won't drop off my list of things to do!
