sure this has been done to death, but anyone had any experience of taking Alli ? Are the side effects truly hideous, or are they manageable? Am thinking of getting it as want to loose about 2 stone, but am a bit scared

I haven't tried it myself, but have heard that the side effects aren't too bad if you really limit your fat intake.

watching with interest cos I want to give it a go once I stop bf.......

I've been using it for 2 weeks now, had great results with minimal side effects. I've even pushed the fat content, although the day after I had fish and chips wasn't exactly great. Even still, I've never been caught short, or had any accidents, so I'd class that as a definite plus. In a way I'd prefer it if I did get more side effects, so then I definitely wouldn't sneak stuff in like fish and chips (even if it was a half portion and lightly battered).

I'm combining it with a low calorie/low fat diet and a lot of exercise. I try not to go over 25g of fat a day, and my calorie limit is 1600. As well as the usual running around after a 2 year old and walking, I'm doing the 30 day shred which is HARD work, but I'm already seeing results.

I think Alli is a really great product, but you have to combine it with a low fat (specifically) and low calorie (ideally) diet, and a bit of exercise. There's no point in getting it unless you're really committed to losing weight though, as it is expensive and not something that should be taken lightly.

Because of the success I've had with Alli and the 30 day shred, I'm revising my weight loss target, aiming to lose another stone on top of the 2 I've already lost.

I tried Alli for 3 weeks combined with a low fat diet and exercise and lost 8lb. I then realised that I could push the fat content and suffer no side effects. So, it kind of lost it's effect for me, as it was the fear of 'anal leakage' in public that kept me on the straight and narrow. So, I could eat normally and nothing would happen. So, I slipped off the wagon, so to speak.

I tried it - got bored with calculating grams of fat al day long so stopped but never had any side effects as I stuck to the regime.

If you use it correctly you won't have any side effects...

Thanks everyone. I try to stick to a weightwatchers type low fat diet most of the time, so perhaps it would be OK. What sort of weight loss would you generally expect in a week? Someone said that when they came off it they couldn't digest fat without terrible pain, anyone else had such side effects?

Naetha how much of your 2 stone did you loose due to Alli?

Can I ask a stupid question ?

If you have to combine it with a low fat diet, is it not that that causes the weight loss rather than the pill?

I've lost about 6lbs in 2 weeks after taking Alli, and that's been with a slightly lower fat diet than I'm used to. I hit a plateau for about 2 months, and nothing would shift the weight, then I started on Alli and the 30 day shred, and like I said - 6lbs in 2 weeks Alli and 1 week 30 day shred.

Lostgirl: it's recommended to combine it with a low fat diet to minimise the side effects. Iirc - Alli ensures that about 50% of the fat you eat passes through you and doesn't get absorbed. So, it won't work with a no-fat diet, and the lower fat your diet (assuming you replace fat calories with carb or sugar calories) the less effect it will have.

I've found it very good if I want to eat high protein food that usually has a high(ish) fat content too - fish, eggs and nuts. As long as I keep my portions fairly small, I find the protein fills me up for a long time, and with the Alli, only half of the fat is absorbed. For example, I used to have toast and honey for breakfast. Now I have toast with peanut butter - I know that half the fat from the peanut butter will be absorbed, but the protein in it will keep me going for longer than the honey would have done.

I think much of it's effectiveness is about how you use it, and whther you use it as a stick to beat yourself up with, or as something to give you a helping hand.

I should get commission for this stuff
