Is there anyone else around that has just joined, or perhaps some old hands to offer support? I have a long way to go, but you have to take a first step, I guess.

don't forget bulgar wheat and pearl barley too! - and all free on green and ee

BuzzingNoise · 25/05/2010 20:32

Thank you, Furball. You have saved me from giving up on day one
I was sulking (I could be found under the duvet muttering about needing white toast and a cup of tea with lots of sugar) but now I feel better.
I've sent DH to Sainsbury's to buy cous cous and various other things. (including sweetcorn, which I intend to eat out of the tin)

Furball · 25/05/2010 20:49

I used to eat quite abit out of the tin

mainly sardines in tomato sauce (free on red and ee in case you're interested!)

please don't give up - tis the easiest diet in the world - you can eat soooooo much, the moral is you should NEVER be hungry.

My top tip is - know what you are going to the kitchen for - never rumage in cupboards

you can eat so many free foods and not do any damage, you may as well

FairhairedandFrustrated · 25/05/2010 22:04

Don't give up, don't give up, don't give up!!!

Yes - furball, I've always wet m weetabix with boiling water, but that comes from growing up in a house of 10 people & not enough milk for us all!! lol

Fimbo, your consultant shouldn't be like that - does she have an area manager you could maybe have a chat to? Perhaps she's been doing it for so long now, a refresher training course may be called for?

BuzzingNoise · 25/05/2010 23:31

Good tip, Furball.

I've decided to go for a green day tomorrow. I used to be a vegetarian and only eat a teeny bit of meat now, and the green plan allows me a wee bit more cereal and milk so I am now looking forward to breakfast.

My faith in SW has been renewed (thanks for being here, ladies ). And you should have seen the size of the potato I had for dinner!

I rejoined SW about 6 weeks ago, and am doing the EE plan.

I'm finding it really good to follow as basically I cook normal food for all the family
For example spag bol, risotto, turkey meat balls in tomatoey/bbq sauce, chilli , bbq at the weekend, roasts and lots of veg with every meal

I do recommend getting really good non stick pan though.

Also eating lots of couscous with chopped up salad veg, seasoned well with herbs and lemon juice eg mint or coriander.

For breakfast i defrost some frozen fruit eg cherries and blueberries (3 bags for £5 in sainsburys) and top with yogurt (muller light)

lunch is usually leftovers

I tend to save up by A and B for when i get in from work and have marmite on toast or maybe cheese on toast.

I'm eating really well, and so are the children, so good luck!

BuzzingNoise · 26/05/2010 08:18

Thanks iwastooearly. Frozen fruit are free, aren't they? I like the idea of them with yoghurt. I loooooooove cherries

I got some couscous last night so I think I will have some tonight.

Today I am on a green day. I had a decent amount of breakfast cereal so I am all set up.

BuzzingNoise: re herbal teas - no I don't sweeten them - not sure if anyone else does.

Fimbo - your consultant has to read out the losses/gains but if her attitude stinks then you should deffo either get hold of the area manager or just ring SW head office. As a previous consultant I can say with certainty that you are meant to mitivate people not upset them.

iwastooearlytobeayummymummy · 26/05/2010 08:38

buzzing,
yes and I am tucking in as 'we speak' yum

AddictedtoCrunchies · 26/05/2010 14:24

Tescos do flavoured packs of cous cous. The lemon & coriander one is free and the mushroom and garlic on is 0.5syns (for the whole pack).

I've just chopped a chicken breast, cooked it in the pan with mixed herbs. When it's done, sling some lemon juice in and let it sizzle for a while. Meanwhile put mushroom cous cous in bowl, pour boiling kettle water on it and cover with a tea towel. When all water soaked up, add chicken to bowl, mix and eat (usually out of the bowl to save washing up).

i take this to work a lot as it fills me up, tastes nice and is easy to heat up in the mmicrowave,.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 26/05/2010 15:15

Oh and there's SW's infamous cous cous cake too.

Make up 9oz plain cous cous in a large bowl (as per the packet instructions).

Then separately, beat two eggs, add 4 dessert spoons of sweetner and a Muller light yoghurt (any flavour). Miz up.

When the cous cous is ready, add the goo to it and mix up.

Pour into a shallow container (I use a tupperware one) and microwave for ten mins.

Turn out and chop into squares to munch at your leisure.

Hello

I am debating whether to go to a class this evening.

I am veggie so will be doing green days but I want to try and keep it varied as i have done SW a few times now but do get bored with it and fall of the wagon!

Can I ask are all of you going to class? I am wondering whether to just try it on my on / online.

The problem I have is no childcare for the nights the local classes run so do you think it would be cheeky turning up with 2 children? I am also wondering if its really a good idea to have 5 year old DD come with me?

Addicted thanks for posting the microwave cous cous cake i have always done mine in the oven - i will now chuck it in the microwave and have cake in a couple of minutes

DastardlyandSmugly · 26/05/2010 16:32

A couple of things that I've found helpful when adapting my usual recipes are:

  • where a recipe calls for a glass of wine substitute with lemon juice
  • where a recipe calls for butter to be added to a sauce add a concentrated stock cube mix, e.g. 2-3ml of water with one veggie stock cube. It gives a sauce a nice glossy flavour.

Stock cubes are also great in couscous.

The SW quiche thing is lovely. I've made it a few times.

Quark is a fab thing to use. You can make a SW friendly carbonara using quark, mushrooms, onion, bacon with fat cut off. It's delicious.

I tend to save my syns for olive oil and parmesan cheese and the occasional glass of wine but then I don't drink hot drinks or have cereal.

Oooh and the chocolate sprinkled Muller Lights are free and are lovely.

shinybootsofleather · 26/05/2010 17:22

FrazzledBlob. It will probably depend on your group, but mine are absolutely fine with my 9 month old son and make loads of fuss over him. The best thing to do would be to call the consultant to check if you're worried. There are also people at my group who bring two kids or more if that's any reassurance. They're quite nice about the noise

BuzzingNoise · 26/05/2010 17:43

Addicted, thanks for the recipe for the couscous cake! I shall try that at the weekend. God I love cake (do I sound like MArgerie Daws?)

I shall have to get to Tesco at the weekend for their packs of cous cous - could be handy for lunch at work.

Frazzled, there was a lady at my meeting with 2 children. There was a boy about 8 who bobbed in and out of the door and a younger boy in a wheelchair who made some noise, but no-one minded at all. So I think you would be fine to go with your children.

Yes my consultant said about the muller choc youghurts. Only the one with the fruity stuff in the bottom has syns (2 if I remember rightly, but don't take my word for it). They are blooming delicious too!
