Sugar Addict - going on the wagon!

In the last year I have gone from just eating chocolate etc at the weekend to having it every day. I have put on a dress size in the last year, my skin looks like shit and I feel generally unwell and run down.

I think I am addicted to sugar and can really feel it if I don't have some. So I want to try and give it up. Or rather I plan to limit myself to some dark chocolate at the weekend. Not sure I can do it but going to give it a go.

Anyone else want to join me or anyone done it with success?

if you can do it just having dark choc at the weekend is a good idea - another thing to try is the supplement CHROMIUM (I think) it helps curb your appitite for sweet things.

Definately supplement with chromium. It increases the recepter cells for insulin, therefore helping to balance blood sugar levels. Dark chocolate as an alternative is great too! I also need to do both of these things And will starting today! Good luck

I'm a sugar addict too. In my most depressed phase I was putting away 250g chocolate bars in a matter of minutes . And I have PCOS and a family history of type 2 diabetes, so it was an absolutely stupid thing to do.

Last week I had a sugar free week. At first it was tough - I posted on here about feeling terrible, but I did it. The only sugar I had was from fruit. It was a bloody miracle considering I usually had sweet things every few hours. After the initial hump I felt so much better and not like a slave to sugar. I had some ice cream over the weekend when I went out, but I want to do another sugar free few days until at least Saturday.

Not heard of that suppliment, where would I get it from?

I've made it past the morning scones in the staff room although I had to sit in the base instead so as not to be tempted!

you can get it from Holland & Barrett Boots etc.

Thanks. Day two was easy but weirdly yesterday was hard. There are too many cookies/chocolates around at my work!

Fell off the wagon spectaculary last night at when at a friend's house for nibbles etc. LOTS of chocolate. Ah well. I figure even if I can keep it up during Mon-Fri that has got to do me some good.

Ooh have just found this thread.

I have not added sugar to tea coffee porridge etc. since last Tuesday, I've not eaten any sweets, chocolate, biscuits or cakes, I've tried to stay away from anything that contains sugar, I've also stopped drinking alcohol. Weekends are the worst for me because that's when I consume most of these things.

I'm hoping to get to the stage where I can eventually have all of the above things but only in moderation, I'd like my taste buds to change so that if I eat too much sweet stuff, it will make me feel sick and hopefully stop me from eating it IYSWIM.

I'm going to try this for 1 month and see how it goes.

Kick the sugar cravings - I was eating a family bag of peanut M&Ms, or at least 100g of chocolate, plus biscuits or cakes. I didn't eat them because I was hungry, but because I wanted them. I ended up with a stone to lose, even though I run regularly and completed the Moonwalk a few weeks ago (26.2 miles). I didn't think I could cope without chocolate, but I don't even want it now. I want to wear my summer clothes instead of buying new, bigger ones, I want to have clear skin and more energy, and I want to look in the mirror without going 'ugh'. I've lost 5lbs this week and it's going down every day.

this might interest you - I got it when living in the USA last year - think there's a website for it too

my ob/gyn recommended it to me - said he had lost loads of weight by following it himself. I actually found it too hard though - you are meant to cut ANY sugar out completely, including ready made sauces that have sugar in them, potatoes (? dunno) table sauces - when I started doing it I quickly realised that far too many of my everyday foodstuffs would be banned, and I had a pretty healthy diet to begin with

So I didn't stick to it but it is worth a look
